Staying Afloat
Matthew 6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
I have to admit that I have been feeling a little overwhelmed lately. Wondering if I will be able to fulfill all that is expected of me pertaining to our move, my busy job, my shoulder therapy, my family obligations ....
Have you ever experienced similar feelings? Uncertain if your circumstances will work out ... trying desperately to STAY AFLOAT.
The New Testament word for worry is translated from a Greek word which means "to have a divided mind." Believing that God is in control and has great plans for your life BUT then succumbing to thoughts of WHAT-IFS is having a divided mind. It is demonstrating a lack of trust in the ONE who loves us with an everlasting love ... the ONE who desires for us to place our complete trust in Him.
Today's verse reminds us that worrying does not add a single hour to our lives. In fact, according to several major studies, worrying leads to stress and stress is linked with a number of health problems - cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal issues, weight problems, certain cancers. Interestingly, these studies reveal that people who do not waste their time worrying over things they cannot control usually enjoy their lives much more.
Instead of worrying about things that may never occur or that you have no control over, I challenge you today to rely on God to get you through the 24 hours that you face each day. Remember - He is in control of our tomorrows so why waste valuable time in our today worrying about what He has already worked out for us!!
Dear Lord, Help me to always realize that You have my future in Your capable hands. My desire is to rest in You ... believing wholeheartedly that You have my best interests at heart.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Are you wasting valuable time worrying about things that are not in your control?
