My Prayer Are NOT Working

Psalm 34:10 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His

ears are attentive to their cry...

Recently our son had strep throat. One night, he woke up every 20-30 minutes coughing followed by crying because of the pain of the cough.

I prayed for him each time he woke up. Finally, he admitted to me, "I took medicine, we prayed, and NOTHING is working."

I am sure if we were all to be honest, there are times in our lives where we feel like we've tried everything including prayer and nothing is working.

I am reminded of the story of Hannah in the Bible. She desired more than anything to have a child. Her womb was barren. This was during a time in Israelite history described as when "every man did what was right in their OWN eyes."

Possibly, God's answer to Hannah was delayed because God had other plans for Hannah, for Israel, OR He was waiting for Hannah to grow spiritually through this situation. It is recorded that she prayed so fervently that she even promised God the use of her child in His service. This might have been what God was waiting for her to declare.

Hannah would later have a child that would change the history of Israel and the world. Her son Samuel would anoint Israel's first king, Saul and later David, the greatest earthly King that Israel ever had. Through David's lineage, Jesus Christ would be born.

Could it be that God delayed her prayers because He wanted to do more than Hannah was asking for?

I challenge you today to rest in the thought that if He delays to answer your prayer, perhaps He wants much more for you than you are asking. Trust in His perfect plan and His perfect timing. Even when you feel like your prayers aren't working, know that He is always working on your behalf.

Dear Lord, Give me strength to trust in your perfect plan for my life!

I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Reflection: Do I need to put more trust in God's timing?
