Why Worry?

Umbrella Chair

Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Today's scripture tells us not to be anxious about anything. Is it possible to go through a day without worrying?  As I thought about some of the things I have worried about, I realized that I could have actually done constructive things in the time that I wasted on worrying.

Matthew 6:27 puts the entire act of worrying into perspective: "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?" So WHY should I worry about if everything that I have to do will get done, if I will catch the cold that everyone else has, if the doctor's report I am waiting on will be favorable.........the list could go on and on.

The second part of Today's Scripture sheds some light on what we should do instead of worrying. We are told to go to God in PRAYER and SUPPLICATION. The word supplication is defined as "an earnest or urgent request, appeal, plea." Therefore, we are not to just casually mention our concerns to God. No, we are instructed to plea with Him, to urgently make a request, to earnestly pray.  Think about your childhood experiences with your parents. When you really wanted something, what did you do? I am sure your best results occurred when you begged, you pleaded, you earnestly requested.

My challenge to you today is to look at your problems with your spiritual eyes. My Pastor once stated in a service that we should not think "Woe is Me" when reflecting on what is going on in our lives. Rather, we should with all assurance state "WOW is my God!" With this in mind, I encourage you to concentrate on what God can and will do in your situation IF you bring your concerns to Him in prayer and supplication.

Dear Lord,  I know that You love me and that You have wonderful plans to prosper me. Help me to realize that worrying is unnecessary because Your promise is that You will work out all things for my good.  I come to You with thanksgiving for all You have done and are doing in my life.

I also thank You Jesus for dying for me.  I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen

Reflection: Are you worrying about your circumstance rather than trusting that God CAN and WILL work out things for your good?
