When the Circus is in Town
1 Corinthians 7: 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to The Lord.
My little boy recently went to the circus with my in-laws. Although we were not with him, they sent us tons of photos. My mom and I were discussing the photos, and she said that she always found the circus to be extremely overwhelming. She admitted that she never knew where to look. There was just too much activity going on.
Interestingly, in all of the pictures that we received of my son, he was obviously keyed in and focused on ONLY one thing.
Do you ever feel that the circus is all around you ... that the issues that you are facing are pulling you in too many directions?
- Maybe financial pressures seem to have you leaping through rings of fire.
- Maybe there are relationships in your life in which you and the other individuals are just passing each other by like trapeze artists ... unable to truly connect.
- Maybe you are encountering addictions in your life or in the lives of others you love that just can't seem to be tamed.
When the circus of life tries to overwhelm you, I challenge you to focus on ONLY one thing. As today's verse encourages, "secure your undivided devotion to The Lord."
There are always circumstances in life that I just don't understand ... unsure of why they are happening ... at a loss as to how to fix them. However, I do know that if I can take my eyes off of all the chaos and seek His face - I WILL find peace and direction.
Dear Lord, Help me to focus my eyes on You. Drown out the distractions in order for me to hear Your still voice.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Have I focused more on the chaos around me than on God?
