What Comes Next?
John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, He asked him, "Do you want to get well?"
I received a devotion through email this morning that reminded me of one that I wrote last week. In my devotion, I encouraged our readers to take the small daily steps that are necessary to lead to a life of wellness. I stressed that this journey is all about making one good choice after another.
The message of the devotion that I received was very similar to the one I wrote ... BUT included an additional point to consider. The author pointed out that we often truly desire to get well but dealing with the WHAT COMES NEXT obstacles can hinder our success. Obstacles such as limited or no support from loved ones, lack of commitment to sustain the critical changes, and inability to say "NO" to temptations greatly influence the daily choices that we make.
One of the most detrimental obstacles that we face - the lack of support from our loved ones - should be in actuality the one where we draw our strength. Sadly, our loved ones may sabotage our attempts to make healthy changes as well as spiritual changes because they may be envious of our success...unaccustomed to the new person we have become.
My challenge to you is to stay on track with your commitment to wellness by thinking of your good choices as personal challenges from God. Don't allow the obstacles that you face deter you from your goal ... always know that you CAN do ALL THINGS through Him!!!!
Dear Lord, I say YES to your question of whether or not I want to be healed. Strengthen me when the obstacles that I face seem insurmountable. Remind me that each good choice will build upon the other... leading to the life that You have designed for me!
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: What obstacles are you encountering in your journey to a life of wellness?
