He IS Peace

Judges 6:24 So Gideon built an altar to The Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace.

Were you ever asked to do something and then wondered why someone would entrust YOU with such an important task?

In the Old Testament, there is an account of a man who was placed in such a postiion. Gideon was called by God to lead the Israelites against their enemy. Since he was from the smallest and weakest tribe, he felt ill-prepared to perform such a feat. He wondered why God would consider him.

Over and over throughout the Bible, God chose the most unlikely candidates to do His work. To enable them to fulfill His humongous plans for their lives, He gave them a wonderful gift ... a spirit of peace. Today's verse reveals what Gideon learned through his ordeal. He not only realized that God is Peace, but he built a visual reminder of this revelation - an altar.

My challenge to you today is to always keep your eyes on Jesus in the midst of your trials rather than on the pounding waves of despair that threaten to consume you. Know that His sweet spirit of peace ... a peace that surpasses ALL understanding ... is available to you IF you are able to remain focused on Him.

Dear Lord, I thank You for giving me peace even in the midst of my most devastating times. Help me to always keep my eyes on You.

I also thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

Reflection: What are the waves that are threatening to consume you ... to take your eyes off of Jesus?
