Many-Faceted God

Psalm 8:1  Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

My three-year old grandson experienced snow for the first time last week.  As his parents were videoing him staring wondrously at the snow, they asked him what was it like to be in the snow. He looked intently at them and announced "fumous."

I believe that his difficulty in articulating a word that his parents could understand was based on his inability to a draw upon a specific word in his limited vocabulary that truly described the uniqueness and the beauty of the falling snow.

Today's scripture speaks about how majestic God's name is in ALL of the earth.  Interestingly, there are more than 100 different names for God in the Bible.  Each of these unique names represents a different aspect of His many-faceted character.  Just as my grandson created a new name for his remarkable snow experience, different names for God were revealed to various individuals based on what they were going through ... the characteristic of God that they needed during their time of need.

For the next few days, we will share a few of the most powerful names of God and their associated meanings. My challenge to you is to learn as much as you can about the meanings of His names in order to discover more about His character, His nature, and His love for us.

Dear Lord,  Your name is truly majestic in ALL the earth.  I thank You for loving me enough to always be available to me when I call out to You. Help me to get to know you better each and every day of my life.

I also thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

Reflection: What is the name that you most frequently use when referring to God?
