The Covering of Love
1 Peter 4:8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
Have you ever heard a song and then could not get some of the lyrics out of your head? I recently had this same thing happen to me after seeing the above graphic.
I just could not get the image of the elderly gentleman covering his companion with an umbrella even though their demeanor screamed that they were extremely angry with each other. Along with recalling the visual representation of this graphic, I have also spent time reflecting on the written message: Just because you're mad at someone doesn't mean you stop loving them!
Today's verse states that we are to continually show deep love for each other because love covers a multitude of sins. I am certain that the umbrella in this graphic is actually the physical depiction of the love this elderly man has for his companion in spite of the obvious disagreement that occurred.
My challenge to you is to love those God put in your life even when it is difficult to do so ... just as the elderly gentleman did ... just as God does. Provide the continual covering of your love during the good times as well as the tough times because God delights in mercy!
Dear Lord, My desire is to look past those things that could come between me and those I love. Help me to keep my covering of love extended over their lives.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Does your love for others cover a multitude of sins?
