Oh No ... I Didn't Mean to Say That!
Matthew 12:34 For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
My husband is a wonderful man, but driving in heavy traffic threatens to take away every bit of his patience. He has had to call out to God for help on numerous occasions to avoid totally losing his cool ... his witness! Thankfully, his time in prayer and in the Word has provided a more positive way to handle the one thing that could be his downfall!
Since life is full of frustrations both big and small, we continually face the temptation of responding to these situations in anger. Today's verse provides an important warning for us all - the condition of our heart will be exposed by our words.
Our job as Christians is to maintain a healthy heart - one that is overflowing with God's love - one that is filled with His peace. My challenge to you when you are tempted to lose your temper is to do what my husband has done countless times ... call out to God rather than running someone over with your words and actions. Guard your heart by keeping your thoughts securely anchored in Jesus all the days of your life!
Dear Lord, I once read that anger is the "unseen irritant of the heart." Help me to always speak words of kindness that flow from a healthy and pliable heart that is filled with Your love.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: What is the condition of your heart?
