I Don't Like that Kind!
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Yesterday, my sister and I brought my three-year old son and her girls to get some Valentine's Day ice cream! The nice lady working behind the counter offered my son a sample of the colorful "Superman" ice cream. She thought it was appropriate since he was wearing a t-shirt with superheroes on it that read, "Chicks Dig Superheroes" lol.
I explained to her - without him hearing - that he was pretty picky and probably wouldn't even try it. She insisted that it was vanilla (which is his favorite) but simply infused with bright red, blue and yellow dye. Sure enough (mother knows best), he refused to even try what was less than a bite on that miniature hot pink spoon saying, "I don't like that kind!"
I explained to him that what was on the spoon was indeed his FAVORITE flavor. It was just colorful. Nothing I said seemed to work. So, we ordered vanilla in its truest form.
This incident reminded me of how we often approach our relationship with God. If His purpose doesn't appear to be what we would expect or His plan doesn't resemble what we've always known, it is easy to reject it... to refuse to even try it out.
However, while today's verse states that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever, we find throughout His Word where He moves in many different ways. His character, power and purpose are always the same ... but His methods vary.
I challenge you today to never limit God based on how you believe a move of God should "look." Ask the Lord for discernment in recognizing His purpose and plan.
Dear Lord, Help me to always recognize when You move and to always easily identify Your voice when you speak...even when it's not as I expected.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Have you opened your heart and mind to everything God has for you in spite of the package it may come in?
