Our Job

Matthew 22:36-39 "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: 'Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.'"

A few nights ago I was asked to attend an Honor's Banquet at a local university with our godchild and his mother. A large part of the evening was devoted to convincing these bright young men and women to make the commitment to attend this university by accepting the scholarships that were being distributed at the end of the evening.

One of the speakers spoke about what is considered to be the job of a college student. As I listened, I began to reflect on something that I had previously read about OUR job as a Christian.

Today's devotion reveals what God truly expects of us....in fact, what He commands us to do. Jesus tells us in these verses that we are to do two things: to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind AND to love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.

My challenge to you today is to work hard at the two things that are more valuable in life than anything else: loving God and loving each other. Your paycheck for this work assignment may not deliver great riches during your earthly life BUT indescribable treasures are being stored up for your eternal life. What an investment!

Dear Lord, My desire is to grow closer to You each and every day. Help me to love my neighbors as You love me.

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

Reflection: How well are you fulfilling your job of fully loving God and your neighbors?
