Comforted to Comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
On a recent chilly night, I cooked a gumbo for a gathering at my daughter's house. Our original plan was to order pizza, but we agreed that a hot bowl of gumbo would be so warm and comforting!
Today's verse reminds us that God provides comfort to us in ALL our troubles so that we can comfort others in their times of need. Just as a hot bowl of gumbo was the appropriate comfort food for our chilly bodies, God is always there to dish out the appropriate comfort to help us deal with our difficulties. We just have to go to Him to receive it.
Sadly, many of us try to address the needs of those around us on an empty comfort tank. In the same way that it would be impossible to share gasoline with someone who has run out of fuel if our own tank is empty, we can't offer COMFORT to those who need it UNLESS we have an available supply.
Dear Lord, Draw me to You in my challenging times so that I will always have plenty of comfort to give to others.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: How would you gauge your comfort level? Are you filled up and able to give to others OR do you need to tap into the Source of all comfort? |
