A Gift for Him ... A Gift for Us!

Psalm 27:4  The one thing I ask of the Lord- the thing I seek most- is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord's perfections and meditating in His Temple.

My granddaughter's kindergarten class is planning a birthday party for Jesus. Her classmates are looking forward to this very special birthday party! In my opinion, her teacher is truly focusing on the true reason for this season - the celebration of Jesus' birth.

When I reflected on my granddaughter's birthday party for Jesus, I began to imagine what type of gift Jesus would want or need for His birthday. What could we buy for Jesus? What would He desire most of all from us?

For many individuals, deciding what to buy for those on our Christmas list is often the most difficult part of the holidays. Having someone provide gift ideas, suggestions, or hints is greatly appreciated. It is always so much more satisfying to give someone a gift that is a desire of his or her heart. John 17:24 does just this for us - this scripture identifies the gift that Jesus desires most of all for Himself as well as for us ... "Father, I want these whom You have given Me to be with Me WHERE I AM!"

Just as Jesus desires for us to be with Him forever, today's scripture reflects the heart-cry of every Christian's heart. We are all born with an innate desire to dwell with God for eternity. Through Jesus' willingness to be born in a humble stable and then to go on to give up His life for us, He has provided all of humanity with the awesome opportunity to experience eternal life with Him. Sadly, for some individuals, unwise life choices and decisions threaten to keep them from pursuing their God-given destinies.

My challenge to you today is to live your life in such a way to fulfill Jesus' greatest desire ... to fulfill our ultimate purpose. Co-existence with Jesus in Heaven for eternity is the greatest gift you can give to Him ... the greatest gift you can give to yourself ... the greatest gift you can ever share with others!

Dear Lord, I am so grateful for Your assurance in John 14:2 that You are preparing a place for us in Heaven. Help me to lead a life that will draw others to You ... to instill in them a deep desire to spend their eternity with You.

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
