My son was born on August 25, 1979 in a very old hospital in Singapore. The ultra modern facility was opening the next week. Due to the large number of babies being born on the particular day that I delivered my son, there were NO available labor or delivery rooms. When I state that my son was born in a storage room with the old windows wide open, I am not exaggerating. I can remember looking at my husband in disbelief. Where were the hyper-sterilized and sanitized equipment, bedding, and materials associated with a modern delivery room?
We had no choice of where our son was to be born that day ... just as Mary and Joseph had no choice of where Jesus was to be born on that long ago Christmas Eve. The time had come to deliver our baby boy, and we had no other place to go. However, there was a major difference in our situation as compared to the one Joseph and Mary faced. In our situation, everything was rectified after the delivery of our son. We were moved into a large room and were cared for by well-trained medical personnel. We received apologies for our initial discomfort, and we were treated like royalty for the remainder of our stay in the hospital.
On the other hand, Mary and Joseph had to remain in the stable where Jesus was born - for there were no clean, comfortable rooms available - the inns were all full. I believe that we can agree that Mary and Joseph probably wondered about the setting for their son's birth. I imagine Mary must have looked at Joseph in disbelief as I did to my husband when we were wheeled into that storage room.
My challenge to you during this Christmas season is to MAKE ROOM for Jesus in your home...in your family...in the hustle and bustle of your holidays. Know that your life does not have to be perfect to make room for Him. He will help you clean things up after He moves in. He's looking for a VACANCY. Invite Him "inn" today.
Dear Lord, In Revelation 3:20, You tell us "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in." My sincerest desire is to always say "Yes ... There is Room for You" ..... in EVERY part of my life!
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
