Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work; If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Our verses for today reflect the importance of having good friends in our lives - friends who are there to pick us up when we fall. Sadly, these verses also contain words of pity for individuals who do not have someone to help them up.
BUT what do you do if you feel that you are ill-equipped to help pick someone up when they are knocked down by their dire circumstances ... OR if you lack the confidence to serve as their anchor?
In all honesty, I experienced these very feelings when I was presented with the opportunity to minister to my best friend during her illness and then again when I was approached to co-author the Constant Friend devotions in her memory. I questioned my ability to fulfill this calling from God - "Would MY words speak to those who needed to hear from Him? How would I be able to do this with a full-time job and a family? Was I worthy of such an undertaking?"
My challenge to you today is to cast aside any thoughts of insecurity in your ability to help those who are being tossed around in the fierce life storms that they find themselves in. Realize that God will always be with you ... He will give you the words to speak ... He will instruct you in what should be done ... AND most importantly, He will reveal Himself as the One who will ALWAYS provide!
Dear Lord, Please help me to never miss out on the amazing opportunities you place before me. Give me the courage and strength to reach out to my friends when they fall down. Use me as a vessel to navigate them into Your loving arms.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
