Hebrews 4:1 God's promise of enjoying His rest still stands. So be careful that none of you fails to receive it.
One thing that my husband and I will miss when my granddaughters move into their new home is the occasional early morning snuggling. Although they do not come to our bedroom every morning, they know that we will never turn them away when they do feel the need to come to us.
The definition for snuggle is "to draw close especially for comfort or affection." Our granddaughters are confident that when they wake up in their bedroom that we will lovingly accept them into our bed and will provide a comforting spot for them to go back to sleep.
Today's scripture promises the same from God. His offer to provide rest for us STILL stands....BUT we are cautioned not to fail to go to Him in order to receive it. Just as my husband and I would never purposefully wake up our granddaughters to bring them into our bed, God will not force us to come to Him. However, He will patiently and lovingly wait for us to approach Him in our good times as well as in those times when we are desperately in need of an embrace from our Heavenly Father.
Kay Arthur, Co-Founder of Precept Ministries, offers the following encouragement: "He has held me when I have had no more strength and have wondered how I would ever make it. He has held me when I have felt defeated by all that I had to do. He is waiting - arms opened wide - for you."
When you find yourself in a situation which is overwhelming to you, know that He is waiting for your approach. Psalm 91:1 assures us that He is offering shelter for any storm that we are facing and peaceful rest for those who find safety in His arms - "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."
My challenge to you today is to remain "snuggled" up to Him through your prayer time, your bible reading, or just in those quiet moments in which you relish His presence. By doing so, you will always be tucked safely under His wing ... able to face ALL of life's circumstances that come your way.
Dear Lord, You promise me in Psalm 23 that I shall not want for anything...that You will make me lie in green pastures...that You will lead me beside quiet waters...and that You will restore my soul. Help me to always realize that You have created such a place of rest just for me.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
