Less Bread - More God
Deuteronomy 8:3 People do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of The Lord.
Since we are constantly bombarded by advertisements of an array of foods in magazines and on television, it is no wonder that our hunger pangs are awakened throughout the day. Some of us even think about what we are going to have for our next meal DURING the consumption of our current meal! Hopefully, I am not the only one who has done this - LOL!
While I do love to eat, I also realize that my necessary nourishment does not solely come from earthly food. I understand that I need to nourish my spirit as well. Today's scripture emphasizes our need for a healthy serving of God's Word...His Presence each and every day!
How can maintaining a consistent diet of God's Word benefit us? How can His constant presence in our lives benefit us?
Isaiah 41:10-13 reveals the benefits - "So don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you." This is one type of nourishment that we can partake of where MORE is definitely better!
From this verse, we are assured that there is NO need to be consumed by worry because God wants to take that from us. 1 Peter 5:7 provides the following direction: "Give ALL your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. "Now, does that mean that worry will never enter our minds? No - it does not. Rather, it means that we are to take the worry that threatens to drive us to despair and to give it to Him.
Along with God's willingness to take our worries, He also wants to take away our fear. Psalm 23:4 is an awesome assurance of the certainty that God IS with us in our desperate times - "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
My challenge to you no matter what "shadow of death" that you face today is to fully rely on our God. He IS able to bring us out of the dark shadows of our afflictions to the bright light of His Glory!
Dear Lord, I know that I need both physical and spiritual food to survive ALL that I am facing. Psalm 119:92 states "If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction." Help me to always recognize how important Your Word is for my wellbeing!
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
