WHO Put THAT There
Ephesians 5:2 And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Recently, my son (who turned three-years-old last month) asked me a potentially embarrassing question. To make his question more embarrassing, I will go ahead and share it with you.
It was a Saturday morning, and we had all slept late. Like most toddlers do, he found a way into our bed. I turned to tell him "Good Morning," and he responded with another - honest and bold - greeting. An inch from my face, he asked, "Dad, WHO put THAT in your mouth?"
Confused (and still half-sleeping), I asked, "Who put WHAT in my mouth?" He loudly responded, "That YUCKY! Who put that yucky in your mouth!?!"
I share this story today because honestly, it's nothing to be embarrassed about.
While we sleep, our bodies shut down the defenses that kill odor-causing bacteria... hence bad morning breath.
It's probably safe to speculate that even the Queen of England has bad breath...although I am sure NO ONE would dare tell her!
It doesn't matter who you are, everyone faces this challenge to some extent. The only solution is to wake up and brush!
However, there is a much greater stench that threatens to overcome all of us each day if we would choose not to cleanse...that is the stench of sin.
Today's verse describes the love of Jesus Christ dying for us as a "fragrant" offering. The verse also commands us to "walk" in God's love. In 1 Corinthians 15:31, the Apostle Paul even said that he "dies" daily. By this, he meant that he submits to God's ways instead of his fleshly desires.
Each day, you will be faced with temptation and challenges as well as the choice of the stench of sin or the sweet aroma of serving Jesus Christ. Sin and temptation are not limited to a certain class, race or type of person. No one is exempt.
I challenge you each day to choose to WALK in God's love...even before your feet hit the ground. Choose His way. Only you can brush the "yucky" out of your life.
Need a FRESH start? Remember this important truth found in Lamentations 3:22-23, "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin AFRESH each morning."
Dear Lord, Please forgive me for my sins. I thank You for fresh starts and for Your wonderful mercies.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that you are Lord and God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
