Don't Allow the WHAT-IFS to Keep You Down
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
I faced two situations last week that required much prayer. One was pertaining to a family member's apprehension over a doctor's appointment due to symptoms that had the potential to yield a dire medical report - the possibility of heart surgery! The second situation occurred when a person that I just recently met DID receive word that her previous life-threatening illness had resurfaced.
In both cases, I went to the Lord in prayer to intercede for these two individuals as well as their family members. To be perfectly candid, my mind did wander at times to the WHAT-IFS of each of their predicaments ..... What if the doctors' reports would be filled with despair? What if their employment would be impacted by their illnesses? What if their medical insurance would not be sufficient to provide the necessary care?
Thankfully, I had the great privilege in the succeeding days to see God move MIGHTILY in both situations. Although my family member is awaiting the follow-up visit with his doctor, the initial findings of his examination and test results appear to be promising. The other individual has a wonderful plan of action in place with her medical team. In addition, she is receiving unbelievable support from her employer to enable her to continue working while undergoing the necessary treatments.
Today's scripture reminds us that God is our refuge and strength in those times when we are faced with overwhelming odds in our lives. I know that the "what-ifs" of these two situations could have knocked me down .... could have resulted in feelings of hopelessness .... could have caused me to disregard God's open offer to turn to Him in my time of trouble!
Genesis 28:15 contains the following encouragement for us when we encounter those times when we desperately need His help - "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go .... I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
My challenge to you today is to always realize that He is working out ALL situations in our lives for our good. We just need to turn over our what-ifs to Him and to BELIEVE that He is capable of doing what He has promised to do.
Dear Lord, I ask that You help me to TRUST You at ALL times knowing that You will direct my path EVEN when I am tempted to lean on my own understanding of the situation that I face. Keep my eyes focused on You when the WHAT-IFS of my situation threaten to keep me down!
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
