Heroes of the Bible Series

Final: Jesus

THE Superhero of Superheroes

John 14:12  "I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father."

When telling my three-year old grandson a bedtime story recently in which he was the Superhero, he interjected that he wasn't a BIG Superhero...just a small one because he was a LITTLE boy!

As I reflected on his assessment of himself, I realized that most of us have felt that way at some time. When faced with huge tasks or feelings of intense fear, we begin to question our ability to handle the situations that we find ourselves in. Sadly, we often fail to grasp that we ARE NOT equipped to handle what life throws at us on our own - we need Him!

In Matthew 28:18, Jesus shares the following with His disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth." Now, for a moment, I would like for you to truly let this scripture resonate in your thoughts....in your Spirit.  Can we even fathom what ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND EARTH truly encompasses?

The amazing thing about this statement made by Jesus to the disciples is that His power IS available to us. Today's scripture reveals that we need to believe in Him. By doing so, we are promised in Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Before allowing yourself to think like my grandson that you are just a little superhero, I want you to understand that Jesus, the ultimate Superhero, took on a human form when coming to earth. Philippians 2:7 states "He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being..."

My challenge to you when you feel that you lack the courage or strength to face your adversities is to hold on to the encouragement of Isaiah 40:31 - "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Dear Lord, I thank You for providing so many examples of men and women in Your word that responded heroically through You. Their lives are encouragement to me as I encounter many of the same things that they experienced during their journey on earth. Above all, I thank You for sending Jesus to us. During His time on Earth, He exemplified in ALL ways the true attributes of a SUPERHERO!

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
