The Big Eye in the Sky
Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.
When my grandmother was a young child, there was one hymn that was sung in her church that actually brought fear to her instead of leading her into worship to the Lord. The lyrics in this song described an "all seeing eye in the sky" that was always watching over everyone on earth.
She found herself throughout the week looking up between the clouds trying to find this enormous eye that was freakishly following her around anticipating any mistakes she may make. At that point, she didn't understand that the songwriter was using imagery to illustrate that God watches over all of His children.
Sadly though, that is many people's perception of God. They believe He is simply watching...waiting for them to make a mistake...waiting for His wrath to be poured out.
It is true that God can see EVERYTHING, and we will all give an account for every word, thought and action. However, He watches over us as a loving parent, not a cruel dictator.
Now that I am a father, I understand the love of God EVEN when His love is expressed through correction. You see, I've never sat and watched my son with anticipation and excitement for him to do something that warrants correction. What his little mind may perceive as dad being "not nice" is actually quite the contrary. Instead, I correct and watch over him to protect him from sticking his finger in a socket or crossing the road without looking...
For many of us, our view of God may be based on the examples we had in earthly parents. Although I am a devoted father, I know that I am flawed. However, God is indeed a PERFECT Father.
He doesn't glare down at you in disapproval. Instead, the Bible says you are the "apple of his eye," which is actually the pupil of the eye. Here's an experiment (that you probably shouldn't really try)...touch the pupil of the first person you see today. You'll QUICKLY find out the value of the pupil.
God IS your biggest fan. He loves you. He WANTS you to succeed.
I challenge you today to strengthen your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Realize that He is always there beside you.
Dear Lord, Although there are times I have let You down, I am so grateful to You for continuing to watch over me, lead me, and protect me.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
