The Big Stage is Calling
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.
On Friday, I had the honor of helping my two young nieces prepare for their dance recital. Of course, they love playing dress-up, but I am realizing that they enjoy it more on their own terms. Trying to keep a four-year-old and five-year-old STILL for hair and makeup is quite the task.
We kept explaining to them that we were PREPARING them for their BIG recital, their big show! That didn't seem to matter. Instead, my two-year-old (who was not helping the situation) appeared more entertaining to play with than us. Although they did not enjoy the primping process, they were thrilled at how they looked in their costumes!
As challenging as getting any toddler to sit STILL could be, I realized yesterday that the impatience of young children is really no different than most adults I know.
Today's verse reminds us that there are times God is telling us to "BE STILL" yet that is a command that many of us have difficulties obeying. It's in most of our human nature to want to find quick solutions and immediately act when problems arrive ESPECIALLY when feeling pressured to do so. Many times though, the Lord desires for us to be still before him. He desires for us to slow down long enough and to tune out all the distractions in our lives so that He too can PREPARE us for our daily recital.
You see, a recital is the act of reciting before others what you know. If we were to step on the stage of life with no preparation, we'd be sure to fall on our faces. However, God desires to prepare us through His Word, prayer, and His voice....which is sometimes very quiet.
He is a Gentleman. He will never force Himself on us. So, we have to make ourselves available to hear what He has to say.
I challenge you today to put your trust in God. You don't have to figure everything out on your own. Slow down, take a deep breath, remove any distractions, sit STILL and allow Him to deposit His truth and provide His strategy for handling all of your problems. Even when things are going seemingly great, it is important to find time to spend with Him. Then, you'll always be prepared for the big stage of life.
Dear Lord, Help me to wait patiently before You and not to respond rashly because of pressure or fear. I know that in You, the perfect answer always resides.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
