"The Lord's Prayer" Series Day 2: "Who art in Heaven"

God's BIG View

Psalm 103:19 The LORD has made the heavens His throne; from there He rules over everything.

 Earth in hands

Have you ever heard a teacher or a parent say, "I have eyes behind my head?" That statement was always terrifying to me as a child not only because of the freakish visual in my mind but also because well...I kind of believed it. It seemed as if my parents knew EVERYTHING that I did - good or bad!

However, in all actuality, I'm sure we all pulled a few over on our parents because they are just humans (super humans but humans nonetheless).

Behold though, there is someone who sees your every move (and it's not the big, jolly man in red). It's Our Father - God. It is asked in Psalm 139:7, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?"

The answer - Nowhere. Psalm 33:13 says, "The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the WHOLE human race."

In yesterday's devotion, we learned that we can come to God with boldness because He is indeed "Our Father." But in doing so, we must also come to him with reverence because He is "Our Father, Who art in HEAVEN..."

God has a vantage point that we don't have. He sees the entire picture, the whole earth in ONE view! He sees the pitfalls ahead that we can't see. He sees the blessings awaiting us if we choose the right path. He sees it ALL.

So, when Jesus instructs us to pray to "Our Father, Who art in Heaven," He's telling us to pray not only to our Father who would do anything for us but also to our Father who truly knows what is best for you and me.

James 1:17 reminds us, "Every good and perfect gift is from ABOVE, coming down from the FATHER of the heavenly lights."

Always be aware that these perfect gifts come from a holy place. Commentator Matthew Henry heeds, "Heaven is a place of perfect purity, and we must therefore lift up pure hands, must study to sanctify His Name, Who is the Holy One, and dwells in that holy place."

I challenge you today to always approach your Father with a pure, humble heart realizing that He has a greater view of the direction your life should take. Each prayer should be driven by and in alignment of the ultimate goal of spending eternity with Him Who art in Heaven.

Dear Father, I thank You that You see all things and that when I submit my life to You, the right paths to take become clearer!

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
