"The Lord's Prayer" Series Day 1: "Our Father"
He Knows My Name
Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows."
When my children were young, my husband and I as their parents knew their likes and dislikes better than anyone else. When we brought them to a new babysitter, we had to share our knowledge with the person we entrusted our children to for the next few hours. We could then leave them with the confidence that this person would know a little about them.
Today's scripture reminds us that God knows us very well. In fact, we read that He is aware of the very number of the hairs on our head. Now, for someone like me with very thick hair, that is a feat only God could accomplish - just ask my husband! Sadly for him, counting his hair is an easier task for God. He has even asked if there would be anyway of transplanting some of my hair on his head - LOL!
The scripture goes on to say that we are VALUABLE to the God of the universe. He knows EVERYTHING about us! In John 10:14, Jesus says, "I am the good shepherd; I KNOW my sheep and my sheep know me..."
God KNOWS you better than anyone else. Matthew 6:8 says that He knows our needs BEFORE we even ask!
Jesus gives us an example of how to pray in Matthew 6. He begins "The Lord's Prayer" with "Our Father..." We are given the awesome privilege to CALL OUT to God not as a stranger but as His child. We are able to go to Him with the knowledge that He loves us - that He knows who we are - that He knows what is best for us.
My challenge to you today is to address God as your "Father" in your prayer time. By doing so, you can approach Him with more confidence and thanksgiving knowing that He is your loving Father. If you recite "The Lord's Prayer," always take time to reflect on what He means to you as YOUR father - who does know YOU when you call out to Him!
Dear Father, I come to You today with a grateful heart. I am so blessed to be Your child - made in Your image. Help me to always be reminded of my lineage and to live my life in a way that reflects You!
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
