Light Up Your World

1 John 1:5-7 ...God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Light Bulb World

My mother recently woke up to a very strange occurrence in her home - half of her house had electricity and the other half did not. Thankfully, we have an electrician in the family, and he, along with other family members, were able to assist my 80 year-old mother with this situation.

One of the first things that had to be done was to check the inside electrical box. After determining that everything was functioning in this area, the next step was to contact the electrical provider to determine if there was a problem with the SOURCE of power to the house. It was discovered that the disconnect of power to parts of the house was due to faulty components in the outside electrical box.

I began to reflect on how we often function NOT completely plugged into our SOURCE of power --- how SOME parts of our lives reflect His light and OTHER parts are filled with darkness.

Three powerful truths are revealed in today's scriptures about our true SOURCE of power. The first one is that God IS our light and that there is NO darkness in Him. Secondly, we are told that sin can enter our lives if we do not FULLY operate in this light. Finally, we are promised great rewards if we completely walk in God's Light ---- we will have fellowship with others and be cleansed from all sin.

My challenge to you today is to become fully plugged into the SOURCE of our power. Psalm 119:105 provides direction for doing so --- "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." By studying and applying His Word, we will not only personally receive the benefits of walking in His light - we will also be able to shine His light on those around us!

Dear Lord, I realize that we live in a very dark world. I desire for my words and actions to be a Light-Bearer in the lives that I encounter. I thank You for allowing Your light to shine through me.

I also thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
