Armor of God Devotion Series: Day 6 Helmet of Salvation

Grab Your Helmet

1 Corinthians 2:16 "...we have the mind of Christ."
  Motorcycle
My dad has had a motorcycle since before I was born. He is a very adventurous person. When I graduated from high school, we decided to take a motorcycle safety class together at the Sheriff's Office.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class for a couple of reasons. I was able to spend some time with my dad, and I learned a lot.  Although my dad is a seasoned rider, he even learned some added safety measures.

Specifically, we learned the importance of wearing a helmet. According to statistics, a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet is 40 percent more likely to lose his life due to a head injury than one who wears a helmet.

Helmets are designed to protect the head and brain from injury. People with brain damage could experience loss of life or live a lifetime paralyzed -  unable to talk, see, or hear.

Just as it is important to physically protect our brains, we must also spiritually protect our minds. God, the Awesome Creator of our delicate, intricate brains, identifies the "Helmet of Salvation" in Ephesians 6 as the fifth piece of equipment to put on each day.

Our minds are where all thought and knowledge reside. Without wearing our spiritual helmets, we too can live life spiritually paralyzed, unable to fulfill what God has called us to do. John 8:31-32 states, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  The Truth that we have in Jesus Christ is the wonderful gift of salvation.

Matthew 10:28 tells us " Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul..." When we have the hope of salvation, we are able to realize that whatever happens on this earth is but a vapor compared to the beautiful eternity we have with Jesus Christ IF we have accepted Him into our lives.

I challenge you today to nurture your relationship with Jesus like you would any vital relationship in your life. Afterall, the relationship you have with Him is the MOST important one.  By getting to know Him more each day through prayer and His Word, you are putting the Helmet of Salvation on daily, protecting you from the lies of the enemy that would try to dissuade and discourage you.

Dear Lord, I thank You for the gift of salvation.  You tell me in Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned..." However, I am in encouraged in Romans 6:23 that although "the wages of sin is death...the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  Thank You for dying for me.  I invite You to ALWAYS be the Lord of my life.
