Armor of God Devotion Series: Day 2 Belt of Truth

Tell Me the Truth

Ephesians 6:14 "Stand firm then, with the BELT OF TRUTH buckled around your waist..."

Belt of Truth

Before packing for their Alaskan cruise, my friends did some research on the

projected daily temperatures during their week in Alaska. They then packed according to the forecast. If they would NOT have trusted the information that they gathered, their packing would have been completed differently.

In the same way that my friends had to believe in the TRUTH of the information that they gathered concerning the weather, it is vital for us to put our trust in the Biblical TRUTHS provided to us in God's Word. Interestingly, the first piece of God's armor is the Belt of Truth. I am convinced that it is addressed first because of its importance.

The Belt of Truth is symbolic of the practice in which a Roman soldier secured with a belt his lion cloth, his undergarment (similar to a baggy shirt), and his outer tunic to provide for better mobility during battle. If he would not have done so, his movements could have been hindered in the heat of battle - interfering with his ability to fight the enemy. He would not have been properly equipped to go into battle.

In order to defeat the enemy who is always prowling around our lives poised to attack, I once read that we must "tuck our lives under the belt of God's TRUTH, His Word." We must equip ourselves for battle by tightly securing our thoughts, desires, and actions so that they line up with His Will - His Word.

The Greek word that was translated "truth" was "aletheia". One definition of this word is "the truth as taught in the Christian religion." Ephesians 4:15 details the importance of embracing God's truth "....speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ."

My challenge to you today is to securely "gird" God's Word around your life. In John 8:32, Jesus states "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." The Belt of Truth keeps us secure in Christ and provides the foundation for the other pieces of armor.

Dear Lord, I thank you for making the provision for me to become more like You. I realize that Your Word is the Belt of Truth that must be tightly buckled around my life in order for me to be equipped to defeat the attacks of the enemy. I understand that Your Word is TRUTH and is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

I also thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
