The One Thing That Always FITS
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword...
A note to our male readers-please do not stop reading after my next sentence lol... Today's devotion reminded me of the book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Admittedly, I never read the book, but I can explain the concept-which IS as silly as the title. The premise is that one pair of pants is able to fit four best friends. The pants travel (by mail) to each girl on their summer vacations.
Now, these four girls are shaped VERY differently-one tall and slim, another short and stocky, one pear-shaped and another average sized. They definitely should NOT be able to share clothing.
Okay guys, you can laugh now. However, women aren't the only ones to share clothes. In 1 Samuel 17:38, King Saul decided to share his battle gear with David upon approaching battle with the 9-foot Goliath. King Saul "dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head."
AND...surprisingly, the gear fit David like it was his own. Well, not so much...
David tried walking around, and quickly realized that Saul's gear would not work. "I cannot go in these," he said to Saul, "because I am not used to them." (vs. 39)
So, David took Saul's clothing off and equipped himself with his own staff, five smooth stones, and a sling to defeat the giant.
When approaching problems in life, many well-meaning people offer advice. They share stories of their experiences in a similar situation and how THEY responded. They may even pressure you to approach battle as they did, and possibly their strategy was excellent.
However, it may not work in YOUR situation. David could not wear Saul's armor to defeat HIS giant. He needed to go into battle with the strategy and armor that worked for him.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 says, "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."
I challenge you today to always seek GODLY advice and to go into battle equipped with complete confidence in CHRIST. When facing 9-foot giants, the world's weapons are just not enough. God's supernatural power is the ONE thing that FITS every time.
Dear Lord, I thank You that You have equipped me for battle. Help me to see the plans that You have for me to ALWAYS defeat the giants in my life.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
