What Could Be More Important?
Proverbs 12:18 "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing."
I have heard motivational speaker, Steve Morgan, speak on several occasions. Each time I had the privilege to hear him, I walked away inspired. Steve Morgan, a man who tragically lost his youngest son in a drowning accident, has the ability to share words of comfort through the overwhelming grief and devastation that he and his family endured. Since I have had the misfortune of losing a precious young family member in a tragic accident, Steve's positive attitude has impacted my life.
How can Steve Morgan do this? How could I do the same? Steve explains that he can share the events that had the potential to destroy his family because the last words he shared with his son included "I love you!" He had no regrets because he always ended every conversation with those IMPORTANT three words -- I LOVE YOU!
Today's scripture states that our reckless words can pierce like a sword and that the tongue (words) of the wise brings healing. Have you ever uttered words to those close to you in anger that you regret? Words that have now erected a wall between the two of you....words that seem to echo in your mind over and over.
We should never allow life's circumstances - busyness, distance, difficulties, financial woes -- to cause us to put off settling disagreements, extending apologies, and/or making amends with those you care for.
What could be more important than telling your loved ones how much they mean to you? Proverbs 18:21 states that "The tongue has the power of life and death....." I truly believe that speaking kind words, uplifting words, encouraging words, could make such a difference in the lives of those around us as well as in our own lives! We all know that words can hurt, words can scar, words can destroy!
I challenge you today to always strive to speak life and love into the lives of those you hold dear. Since we do not know how much time we have on this Earth or how much time we have with our loved ones, we need to make the very most of every moment that we are granted with them.....What could be more important?
Dear Lord, I realize that my words have tremendous power. I pray that You help me to speak gentle words that edify others. I ask that You "Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips" (Psalm 141:3).
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
