Small Steps of Faith
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight.
Shortly after my wife and I were married, we traveled to Africa on a mission's trip with my grandfather. We were excited about our destination, but this 24-hour trip felt like it lasted forever!
The airplane we were on had monitors that showed the progress of the flight. We often stared at that monitor praying the plane would quickly advance. However, after taking a nap or watching a movie, it was amazing to see the leap that plane had taken across the Atlantic.
The seventh fruit of the Holy Spirit is "Faithfulness" which is defined in the Greek as "Faith."
On that flight, we had FAITH that we were going to reach our destination even if we didn't see the immediate progress. Today's scripture reminds us that we "live by faith, not by sight."
Maybe you're in a situation where the circumstances around you seem so bleak that you can only SEE your situation with physical eyes based upon the evidence presented to you.
I want you to know though that God is bigger than the evidence you see. Even if you are lacking in your faith, He makes faith available to you as a GIFT of the Holy Spirit.
You see, God tells us in Matthew 17:20 that if we'd just have faith the size of a mustard seed that we can move mountains and that NOTHING would be impossible for us.
While taking a LEAP of faith is wonderful, God is really just asking you to take a STEP with Him. As you are faithful to accept His gift of faith and trust in Him, your steps will add up. One day, you'll look back, and it will feel like you too crossed an ocean!
Your step of faith may be freeing your mind of worry and focusing on God's promises. It may be trusting God to guide you in a business venture you have always dreamed of pursuing. It may be making amends with someone that you've dreaded talking to.
Whatever your "step" is, I challenge you today to take it. You'll be surprised how quickly that step turns into a leap.
Dear Lord, Your Word says in Hebrews 11:6 that "without faith it is impossible to please God." I thank You for the gift of faith. Forgive me for times that I did not trust You with my situation and ultimately my life.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
