Isaiah 40:31 "Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary."
President's Day is the common name for the federal holiday officially designated as Washington's Birthday. As the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen, the holiday was celebrated on Washington's actual birthday in 1796 on February 22nd.
While the holiday is still officially known as Washington's Birthday, it has become popularly known as "President's Day", honoring all the men who have served or is serving as President.
Although I do believe that our Presidents should be honored, many of us often fail to truly reflect on the great accomplishments and extreme sacrifices these men made for all of us.
Do you think that they got tired? Do you think that they became weary? Do you think that the men holding the highest position in our country needed to draw strength from our God?
According to several sources, all of our Presidents have acknowledged belief in God even if their religious affiliations have greatly differed. In reference to the questions above, I am certain that the vast majority of them did turn to God for strength, for counsel, for comfort, for peace.
In preparation for tomorrow's celebration of all that these men have endured for us and contributed to our country, I challenge you to make it a habit to pray for our current President and leaders.
In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, the Bible says, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
Notice that this verse does not say, "I urge you based upon your political views to pray for those in authority..." I believe that a strong prayer covering over the people in charge of this great nation, whether you voted for them or not, is not only necessary but vital in view of the impact of the President's decisions on each and every citizen of the United States.
Dear Lord, We come before You with grateful hearts for the dedication and perseverance of our past and present Presidents. These men sacrificed much to lead this great country. Help me to remember to lift up our current leaders in prayer each and every day to make decisions for our country which are aligned with Your Word.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
