Family Treasures
Proverbs 13:22 "A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children...."
My mother's nickname is "Baby", and she is affectionately referred to as "Granny Baby" by all who know her. When our children were in elementary school, my sisters and I gave gifts of homemade fudge to their teachers. This fudge was not just any fudge--it was "Granny Baby's Fudge."
My grandmother died when my mother was only 18-months-old resulting in my mother being raised by her father and siblings. My mother's older brothers actually taught her how to make the infamous fudge. She has in turn taught us how to make it, and it will now be our privilege to pass the process on as "our inheritance" to our children just as today's scripture instructs us to do.
Now, you may be thinking that a fudge recipe is not much of an inheritance--not truly a treasure. Well, if you would ask the individuals who absolutely love my mom's fudge, they would definitely disagree!!! AND to my family, it is truly worth a fortune because of the LOVE and history that is associated with my mom's fudge. It is a part of my ancestry--it is a part of my mother!
We are assured that we are members of God's family in Ephesians 1:5--"In love He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ." Just as my grandfather, uncles, and aunts loved and cared for my mother after losing her own mother, God wants to do the same. He wants to share His inheritance with you--His love.
As a member of HIS family, I challenge you today to spend as much time with Him as possible. Give Him the opportunity to pour all that He has for you into your life and to share a few family secrets! By doing so, you will then be able to share the great treasure that He has bestowed upon you with your family and with everyone you encounter BECAUSE after all, we are one big family--heirs of the King. His inheritance is sweeter than any recipe and anything money can buy!
Dear Lord, I thank You for the inheritance that is available to all who believe in You. I pray that the "Family Treasures" that I leave to my children AND that will be passed on to their children will be ones that will be pleasing in Your sight and will guide them to eternal life with You.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
