The "Write" Thing to Do

Habakkuk 2:2 "And the LORD answered me: 'Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.'"

We are already almost a week into the New Year. How are those New Year's resolutions going? Many of us have very good intentions to start the year off with goals designed to better ourselves and those around us.

No matter what your specific goals are, it can be quite disappointing when those goals are not accomplished. In Matthew 5:37, the Bible says, "Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

God takes commitment very seriously. He is always faithful to what He says in His Word, and He expects us to be the same way. Many can relate to how disappointing it is when someone gives you their word and then leaves you stranded at the last minute. We are called to be men and women of our word!

In today's verse, we are urged to write down our vision. God encourages you to write down your vision for a few reasons. If you write down your goals and put them somewhere visible, you are constantly being reminded of what you set out to do. In addition, others are able to see your commitments which then increases your level of accountability.

Today's verse also says to make the vision plain so that those who see it can run with it. A perfect example of that is this daily devotion that my mom began. She was very clear that she was going to write a devotion every single day. By letting those around her know that, she knew that she was accountable to more than just herself but that others were waiting on her to do what she said she would do. Because her vision was plainly laid out, on days that I knew she needed assistance, I was able to "run with the vision" by writing her devotion. Now, we write the devotion as a team.

I challenge you today to write down your specific New Year's goals if you hadn't already. Hang them up where you and someone who will encourage you will see them.

Dear Lord, Forgive me for times that I said I would do something and failed to live up to my word. I thank You that today is a new day, and I vow to fulfill the things that I have committed to You, to others and to myself.

I thank You Jesus for dying for me.

I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen
