2006 CIF Basketball Championship Reunion and
Landry Fields Jersey Retirement
On Tuesday, January 5th, the Los Alamitos High School Basketball program recognized the 2006 CIF Basketball Championship team held in the Los Alamitos High School gym.

Current Head Coach, Eddie Courtemarche, served as the master of ceremony and described the achievements of that team, including how they worked together as a team, embodied the essence of playing for teammates versus self, and their incredible run to the CIF title.

The coach of the CIF Champions, Russ May, also addressed the audience and shared his coaching experience and the tremendous talent and character his team had that has become the foundation of Los Alamitos basketball.

Additionally, Los Alamitos High School retired the high school jersey of Landry Fields who was a member of the 2006 CIF Championship team. Mr. Fields went on to play collegiate basketball at Stanford University where he had an excellent career. He was later drafted into the NBA where he has played for the New York Knicks and the Toronto Raptors.

After a framed jersey that will be on permanent display in the school gym was presented to Mr. Landry, he addressed the audience and thanked his teammates, supporters, and family.

Senior Wrestlers Recognized, Team Defeats Edison

Before taking on visiting Edison, all Senior Wrestlers were recognized in a pre-meet ceremony. Head Coach Kenny Torres read the biographies, future plans, and favorite wrestling moment of each Senior Wrestler.
Wrestlers were escorted by family members and greeted by Superintendent, Dr. Sherry Kropp and the Los Al Admin team.

Los Al went on to defeat Edison in the match 48-24.

Girls Water Polo and Girls Basketball Defeat Edison

Continuing with their winning ways and showing why they are both Top 10 teams in Orange County, both the Los Al Varsity Girls Water Polo and Varsity Girls Basketball defeated Edison this past week in Sunset League Play. Water Polo took down the Chargers by a score of 8-2 and the Lady Hoops squad bested Edison 65-45.
Winter Formal: "A Night in Disguise" A Huge Hit

Students were treated to what Seniors are calling the "greatest Winter Formal ever!"  Saturday night saw a wide range of students dressed in formal attire attend the 2016 Winter Formal themed "A Night in Disguise". Held at the AV Center in Irvine, nearly 1,100 students danced, had fun in a photo booth, played casino games, met with a fortune teller, and had airbrushed tattoos painted on their arms.

Couples and friends were also able to take professional pictures as they donned their fancy attire. The dance floor was never empty as music pumped, snacks and desserts were shared, and a fantastic time was had by all. Without a doubt, A Night in Disguise will go down as one of the best Winter Formal dances in Los Al history.

Thank you to Ms. Keely Hafer and all the ASB students, and Ms. Miller, administration, and all parent and teacher volunteers for supporting the safety and memories of our students.

Eyassu Worku Sets All-Time Scoring Record

As part of the opening home win against Edison, Eyassu Worku scored 31 points on his way to becoming the all-time scoring leader in Los Alamitos High School Varsity Basketball history.

Worku scored 25 of his 31 in the second half, including 13 straight points in the final quarter. Family, friends, and teammates were on hand to share in the historical occasion.
