The First "A," Academics:
With State Assessments Coming Up (As Well As AP Exams, The SAT, ACT, And More), It's Time To Showcase Our Teaching & Learning!!!

The academic achievement of our students is a serious undertaking here at Los Alamitos High School, and it's during this month of May when our students experience the bulk of their scholastic exams. From AP tests, to SAT and ACT exams, to state assessments, our school is committed to maximizing the achievement of all of our students, all of the time. To this end, please find our upcoming State Assessment Bell Schedule at the top of this article, and click HERE for an expanded version.
Juniors will take Math exams on May 20th and May 21st, and English Exams on May 27th and May 28th, in the same online digital environment they've been preparing for all year long.
Remember, scores of 3 and 4 on these exams can exempt students from English and Math classes at California State Universities and exit them out of the state's Early Assessment Program (EAP). We'll be mailing this information home in the coming days, and we encourage all families to take a look at the Assessment Bell Schedule as it impacts every student at Los Al. (Test-takers will start at our regularly scheduled time of 7:48am on all Assessment Days, and non-test-takers will have extended Late Starts.) Thank you, as always, for supporting the academic achievement of all of our Griffins. Our students go on to incredible colleges and career fields upon graduating from high school, and it's because of our school-to-home partnerships that our ongoing academic success has been possible!

Chief Wilson Teaches Students How To Mend The Human Body:
What's The Best Skill In The World To Know How To Do? Answer: Save Somebody's Life.
Turning theory into action, Chief Wilson (red shirt, above), demonstrates how to treat a potentially dangerous injury to a group a students using all the tools of the trade.
Here's a glimpse of some students working with Chief Wilson on a lesson during an outside lab lecture on multiple fractures splinting. Chief Wilson (a former Long Beach Fire Chief) was going over the use of the hare traction splint, and students couldn't have been more engaged. Putting skills into application, and turning scenarios into real-life is what true hands-on learning experiences are all about. Thanks Chief!

Los Alamitos High School Wins State's First-Ever GOLD RIBBON SCHOOL AWARD!
The Gold Ribbon Award is the State Of California's new school recognition program for secondary schools that just began this year. It will replaces Blue Ribbon Awards.
Los Al High School is honored to receive this award this year in conjunction with our two Middle Schools, Oak and McAuliffe, who were also awarded Gold Ribbon recognition this week! The award is based on innovative instructional practices that enhance teaching and learning, and this year's application for the high school highlighted Instructional Networking --- our peer-to-peer professional development model in which teachers go on "Hospital-Style Rounds" to observe teacher's practice and reflect and debrief their observations.
The award is prestigious, and we are grateful to join wonderful company amongst this year's honorees. (For a full list of Gold Ribbon Award winners, click HERE.)
