.............. Unlimited Possibilities!
The Evolution Of Homework:
At Los Al, We Take Teaching & Learning Pretty Seriously... Watch The Video Below To Listen To Mr. Farvour's EdTech Talk About How He Maximizes His Class-Time With Students
In this 12-minute segment of a larger presentation made by Mr. Farvour, we can hear the depth to which he's constructed his homework/class-time protocol so that students are engaged in meaningful and rigorous learning tasks at home and in school.  This is, of course, only made possible because of technology... but it's Mr. Farvour's use of the tools available to all teachers that makes this professional development opportunity so rich and useful for all of us at Los Al.  Thanks Farv!
Instructional Networking Defines Our Professional Culture:
With Over 30 Teachers Participating In Last Week's Rounds, Being In A Colleague's Class Is Just A Part Of Teacher Growth At Los Al...

Designed for Los Al teachers, by Los Al teachers, Instructional Networking is one of the best ways to observe new instructional practices, reflect on your own, and see your students in a different setting other than in the content area you teach.  If you're interested in attending, respond to Ms. Currie's next invitation by email in January!
Watch Ms. Helm Ask Bill Nye For "Advice To A Science Teacher"
His Answer:  Let Your Passion Come Through!
Bill Nye might quite possible be the idol of every Science teacher of today's generation.  He's brilliant, quirky, committed to science, and has a deep and profound respect for the profession of teaching.  Just listen to him in the video above.

Ms. Helm (heard off camera in the video above) couldn't pass up on the chance to meet one of her science heroes just a few weeks in Los Angeles.  (Think Sheldon of THE BIG BANG THEORY getting to meet Professor Proton!) And when she did, she was quick to ask a question that teachers of all content areas wonder from time to time:  How do good teachers get students to love/respect/appreciate the subject matter they teach?

It didn't take long for Bill Nye to answer.  And in true Los Al fashion, he used a word we talk about time and time again in Professional Development:  PASSION!

Check out the video for the full experience :)

Model United Nations Rocks The Annual Tustin M.U.N. Conference!
Taking Home 9 Awards, These Griffins Debated Real Issues Impacting Our World

We had one of the largest delegations in Los Al M.U.N. history attend the 22nd Annual Tustin M.U.N. Conference, and they all represented Griffin Nation with pride.

All M.U.N.'ers, new and veteran, met at Los Al at 7am two weekends ago and took the bus headed south to Tustin High School.  Dressed in their professional/business attire, these students made last minute plans and strategies that they would take into committee as they prepared themselves to debate current events and world policy.

The committees varied from Presidential Cabinet, Security Council, Women and Refugees, and more, and our Griffins represented countries like Nigeria, Libya and South Korea.  As the two day conference progressed, Los Al students debated and created international policy in a diplomatic atmosphere.  (Of course, all this debating led the delegates to develop plans and ideas that would solve problems that are plaguing the world political forum of today.)

Our very own Griffins did an outstanding job as they came home with NINE awards (research, commendations and outstanding awards) at the end of the the two day conference.  We are very proud of these M.U.N.'ers!  And they look forward to representing Los Al once again at the Mission Viejo Conference January 17th and 18th in 2015.
