Caps & Gowns & Pictures & More...
This year's Bacclaureate Ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 5th at Seacoast Grace (just blocks away from the Los Al campus).  Don't forget to bring a camera!

In case you're interested in the history, meaning and traditions behind Baccalaureate Ceremonies in high school, read the following:

baccalaureate service is a celebration which honors a graduating senior class from a college or high school.  The service is held within a few days of the graduation  and/or commencement ceremony, perhaps on the Sunday before, the day preceding, or immediately preceding the graduation. Speakers selected tend to be community leaders, faculty members, or students and may be elected by the graduating class. Speeches are often intermixed with musical performances, and entertainment.

The baccalaureate service derives from the medieval European custom of presenting the candidates for the degree of Bachelor (bacca) with laurels (lauri) of oration. The Baccalaureate ceremony is a service in celebration of and thanksgiving for lives dedicated to learning and wisdom.

Staff Appreciation Day Rocked!
Thanks To PTSA For A Week Of Food, Fun, And Prizes For Everyone :)
Los Al teachers chowed down during an outdoor BBQ on the Pool Deck this week. All of this was made possible by our incredible PTSA and their commitment to giving thanks to the teachers and staff that change our students' lives each and every day!
Presentation & Production:
For 21st Century Learners, Publishing Is A Requisite Skill
In this picture, two students set-up to film their peers during a "Hip Hop History" Project in which students rewrite popular songs and add a historical context to it.

Now that there are cameras in people's pockets, and production software can be downloaded for free on just about any device, the ability to produce, present, and publish is becoming a necessary skill for today's students and tomorrow's leaders.

Here's why:  The technology revolution has made access to content easier than ever before.  It's not difficult anymore to find information related to a particular topic.  If you want to know something, you Google it, and there's a slew of different options for where to get your information from. That's where presentation, production, and presentation come into play.  The best-produced, most accessible, and highly-engaging content attracts the most viewers and becomes the most relevant.

Students (who will eventually become working professionals) need to know how to publish their presentations as they'll be competing with each other for hits and views and relevance and meaning when they join the labor force in just a few years.

And there you have it... a true 21st Century skill born directly out of this Era of Technology and being developed in the classrooms of Los Alamitos High School.

Show Choir's POPS Show Does It Again!!!
And This Year's Theme Is "I Love Los Al" :)

Assistant Principal Dr. Stone and School Board Member Diana Hill Show Their Love For Los Al During Show Choir's Opening Number Saturday Night.  #iHeartLosAl

Thee's really no better way to culminate the year than a full-blown homage to the school, culture, and community that makes us who we are.  Los Al's Show Choir did exactly that this weekend, as hundreds of Griffins paraded around in "iHeartLosAl Choir" shirts and represented the very best of what our school is all about.

The show was chock-full of hits that students put their own "Los Al" spin on, and by the time the night was over, Seniors were crying all over the place as the realization that this was their last performance together began to sink in.

High school is about many different things for many different people, but it's the shared experiences among friends that truly last a lifetime.  For those in Show Choir, whether it be for one semester or four years, the memories created there will never be forgotten.

The only question left to really ask then is this:  How can you not love Los Al?

Los Al Celebrates May Signing Day:
13 Student Athletes Make NCAA Commitment!
The last Signing Day of the year saw 13 more Griffins take their talents to the next level to compete as student-athletes in highly regarded sports programs nationwide.

It really is true that #LOSALROCKSATALLSPORTS, as this year we've sent 52 student-athletes to compete in national caliber athletics at Universities sprinkled all across these United States.  This week's signings included athletes in Football, Soccer, Track & Field, and Rowing.  In fact, 5 athletes were rowers, as Los Al has a strong partnership with Long Beach Junior Crew in developing top talent.

Congratulations everyone!  And as Ms. Miller said at this Signing Ceremony, "No matter where you compete, or what jersey you wear in the future... you will always be Griffins!"
