U.S. News Says #LosAlRocks:
Los Alamitos High School Is One Of America's BEST Places To Learn & Grow!!!
Click the picture above to see how U.S.News & World Report ranks Los Alamitos High School in comparison with every other high school in the state and country.

Springtime is "Ranking Season" for American High Schools, and everywhere you turn another entity is going through data trying to figure out how good each and every high school is. Different news outlets use different criteria to determine their value-base for determining state and national ranks, and Los Al tends to fare well no matter which metrics are being used.  From Graduation Rates, to AP Exam data, to State Test Scores, and more, the results from our school speak for themselves... and we're always glad when outsiders are impressed by what our students achieve :)

For Los Al, the rankings are affirming, and they validate our focus on the 4 A's:  Academics, Athletics, Activities, and The Arts.  But in no way do we put value on one magazine's score over another. Or the difference between our school's results and another's.  We've built a culture at Los Al that speaks for itself.  And it's our commitment to our students and families that we care to brag about the most.  In the years to come, you can rest assured we'll continue strive towards even greater success!

AP Exams Start This Week:
With More Than 1,700 Students Taking Advanced Placement Classes This Year, The Next Two Weeks On Campus Will Be Highly Focused on Academics
Wearing your class' AP Pep Shirt has become a deep tradition at Los Al!

Have you ever done a Google Image search of "Harvard" or "UCLA" or "Duke" or "Stanford"?  If so... what did you find?  Did you see young people sitting in desks, thinking about how to solve a complex problem?  Did you see classrooms and high stakes assessments?  Did you see Study Sessions?

Of course you didn't!

Because even though these institutions are deeply associated with the highest caliber of academics, it's everything else that goes on on campus that supports teaching and learning that students most often (and most vigorously) participate in. Yet, at the end of the day, academics in schools is first and foremost.  Always has been.  Always will be.

At Los Al, the same is true for us.  And at the crux of our academic value is our nationally regarded AP Program.  Unlike any other high school in California, we continue to service more and more students in AP courses every year, and our Pass Rate continues to soar.  This is because we fundamentally believe that we have capable students, amazing teachers, and supportive families that make rigorous course challenges a reality for all of our Griffins.

The next two weeks at Los Al is the culmination of many students' academic focus. More so than report card grades, AP Exam success directly translates into college course sequencing (and even saves students money as they qualify out of Intro Classes across the disciplines as Freshmen in college).

So join our community in their unified focus on performing their academic best these next two weeks.  With 1,700 students enrolled in AP courses this year, they appreciate our support in maximizing their efforts!
There Is No Front Of The Room:
Teachers Who Are Always On The Go Can Make Rectangular Rooms Feel Circular

"Teach in a circle, and you'll never be a square :)"  Words that Ms. Armstrong, and many Los Al teachers, run their classroom by.  The more teachers move and engage closely and directly with students as they complete complex tasks, the more the "front" of the room becomes everywhere --- a fully immersive learning environment.

Scholarship Season Has Los Al Artists Smiling :)

Steve Sung Eun Kim, 18, a senior at Los Alamitos High School, was chosen as a finalist in the Music Center's 26th annual Spotlight Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

He competed with more than 2,300 participants in the arts education competition. Kim was the second-place winner in the two-dimensional art category and won a $4,000 scholarship provided by The Music Center, one of 16 students who took home awards and scholarship money.

Kim developed his skill and passion for visual arts during his junior year. Recently, he has focused his artistic efforts on the exposure of ignorance within society, utilizing metaphorical images to illustrate the relationship between daily choices and ignorance.

He has participated in Vision Gallery and has volunteered with Autism Speaks and Joy Center. Through such experiences, he discovered the ability of art to raise awareness for global issues.

After high school, Kim plans to study art history and fine art at Cornell University. This is his first year participating in Spotlight.

All A's. All 4 Years.

The Seniors honored with the last recognition at Academic Awards Night this Monday received Straight A's for all 4 years of high school.
