Three students will graduate from KORE this year, and all three of them have been accepted and plan to attend Bluegrass Community & Technical College! The role KORE Academy played in their journeys speaks to the many different times that students begin with us here. One of our graduates came to us as a 7th grader, a second one enrolled as a junior last year, and the third has only been with us for her senior year. It's never too late to make a change!
Speaking of change, it comes with every new school year. New students join re-enrolling students, and the makeup of each blended class is unique to the coming year. We have twenty-seven students re-enrolling and many prospective applications being reviewed for next year's classes, which puts us in a financially stable position for the coming year.
Some of the new applications coming in are a result of the first annual Open House held recently, which was well attended. Prospective families and referring schools were able to learn more about KORE and visit classrooms, view curricula, and talk with teachers. Monthly informational sessions will continue to be held for inquiring families, in addition to the annual Open House.
One of the things visiting families always comment on is the beautiful art work they see in the halls. At KORE we value the arts! Judy Greer does a fantastic job introducing our students to meaningful art projects that result in unique art pieces that reflect the identity of the artist! She also provided leadership for this year's Science Festival, which included science projects that asked many fascinating questions, along with a variety of other demonstrations of scientific principles at work.
The annual theater workshop with the Lexington Children's Theater is always a hit with visiting families as well. Currently middle school and intermediate students are involved in a 2-week workshop with the Lexington Children's Theater, and in addition to this yearly workshop for all students, intermediate students also have a drama class each week as an elective. Everything from role playing social situations to putting on a play for the rest of the school is a part of this class taught by Mindi Day.
As another year draws to a close, I count myself fortunate to play a small part in the educational journeys of our students. Thanks to all of you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Carol Douglas
