Ready or Not, Here Life Comes!

This book by Mel Levine, founder of the nonprofit institute All Kinds of Minds, speaks to the importance of preparing kids to be productive young adults ready for the next steps after high school. Those next steps might be a 4-year university, 2-year community college, certificate program, vocational training, or the work force. Regardless of the paths students will take when they leave KORE, we want to be sure we are adequately preparing them, both academically and socially.

As parents, you might be wondering "What's next after high school for my child? What are his/her options? What supports will he/she need in order to make a successful transition? What steps should I be taking now?" If so, the Transition Planning event scheduled for Feb. 3 is for you! Please join us on Tuesday, Feb. 3 for an event that has been organized to assist you in answering these questions. See below for more details on this exciting, first-time event!

Please join us for what promises to be a very informative evening, and feel free to bring a friend who might benefit from it as well. If you could let us know if you plan to attend, that would be helpful, but feel free to come either way!

Sincerely,

Carol Douglas

KORE Academy Director

Message from the BOARD

As many of you now know, Carol Douglas will continue as the director of KORE Academy through the next school year, 2015-2016!

As the search committee met, reviewed survey results, and evaluated our current school position, we realized that in order to move forward and achieve the goals we have set, it is critical to establish multiple funding sources. Tuition and parent-driven fundraisers will not enable us to achieve our goal of increasing salaries for our most valuable asset: our teachers. Nor will we be able to increase our investment in tuition assistance, technology, curriculum, professional development and more.

The board has approved the addition of a part-time development officer to assist us in implementing a development plan. This individual will be responsible for building relationships with individuals, corporations and family foundations to provide sources of income to sustain KORE Academy. The search committee will immediately begin to search for a development officer with the intent to have someone in place in June. Once this position is filled, the search committee will renew our search for a school director for the school year 2016-2017.

The board is deeply grateful to Mrs. Douglas for her commitment to KORE and our students. We look forward to working closely together for another year!

Sincerely,

Vicki Henderson
Board President

 KORE Academy
 Science Fair 2015

 Tuesday, Feb. 24, 6:30pm

Mark your calendars for the KORE Science Fair!
Science projects are an amazing opportunity to expose kids to the world around them. KORE students are currently exploring concepts in physics, chemistry, human behavior, and more. Each is conducting an investigation that will answer the questions they have posed! Find out how it all turns out!

 REALITY STORE
 Monday, March 23

For the first time, KORE Academy students will experience our version of the Reality Store! The Reality Store is a program that is designed to help students get a glimpse of what it is like to live in the real world. Students will receive "paychecks" and have marital status and parenthood decided randomly. Using that information, they will make financial decisions about housing, food, entertainment and more. The Reality Store is a fun way to learn about personal responsibility and individual choices.
