Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida!

The Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County would like to invite you to participate in Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! This statewide week-long event promotes the importance of early literacy experiences and will take place on January 26-30, 2015.

Please join the celebration by participating in the Simultaneous Reading Activity and offering to host a guest reader.

Simultaneous Reading Activity

On Wednesday, January 28 at 9:00 a.m. early learning providers across the state of Florida will be reading the exact same book at the same time to children in their care. After the book is read, enhance the learning experience by creating a coinciding activity.

The books chosen for Literacy Week are Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Williems for infants and toddlers, and Time to Sleep by Denise Fleming for three- to five-year-olds.  Click here for more information about these books.

The Coalition has purchased copies of the Literacy Week books for all SR and VPK provider in Pinellas County with children birth to five-years-old. Books will be mailed to providers prior to Literacy Week. Our goal is for all local providers to take part in this activity.

Special Guest Readers

The Coalition is putting a spotlight on the importance of early literacy by inviting local dignitaries, board members, community partners and Coalition staff to read at early learning sites in Pinellas.
