MESSAGE FROM ELC BOARD CHAIR:
JULIE DANIELS

Dear Providers,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County, Inc., I am pleased to announce Lindsay Carson has been named Chief Executive Officer.

Ms. Carson has worked for the Coalition for nine years, serving as Deputy Director for five years and Interim CEO since October 2013. During her time as Interim CEO, she made significant changes in the organization.  Ms. Carson is striving to continue to build community relationships as well as enhance the service we give to children, families and staff.

The Coalition has a strong team of dedicated staff members that are committed to supporting families and ensuring children have access to early care and education services. I am sure Ms. Carson will continue to lead the Coalition with transparency, integrity and compassion.

SR Child Transfers
Summer is right around the corner and many families will begin transferring their children to different providers. Our Family Services staff wants to make this process easy for both parents and providers.

In order to transfer, parents must complete the SR Child Transfer Request form for each child. Both the parent and current provider must sign this form to verify no parent fees are owed. Parents have the option to either pick up the voucher at one of our offices or receive it by mail. Vouchers are valid for 15 days.  Now is the time to begin submitting transfer requests for the summer!

The SR Child Transfer Request form is linked to this email and available online at www.elcpinellas.net under the "I am a Parent I want to..." drop down menu.
NEW OEL RULES
School Readiness Curriculum
As previously announced, Florida Statute Section 1002.825 requires the Office of Early Learning (OEL) to adopt a list of approved curricula that meet school readiness program performance standards. A committee has reviewed all submitted curricula and OEL is currently working on finalizing the list of approved curriculum. The list of approved curriculum will be release from OEL in the next few weeks. SR providers must implement use of an approved curriculum by July 1, 2014.  We will keep you posted and let you know as soon as the list is announced.
Required VPK Instructor Trainings

Don't forget, as stated in recent legislation in F.S. 1002, VPK instructors are required to complete the Emergent Literacy as well as the Standards for Four-Year-Olds 2011 training courses by July 1, 2014. OEL will be offering the VPK Standards course online beginning July 1, 2014.

Please note: VPK Instructors with a qualifying Associate's degree or higher are not required by law to have these courses, yet they are highly recommended.

If you have any questions regarding these training requirements, please contact your VPK Specialist
