TRYING TO MAKE PLANS FOR THE HOLIDAYS?

Here's THS' Exam Schedule:
  • Monday, Dec. 17: 2nd and 4th block
  • Tuesday, Dec. 18: 1st and 3rd block
  • Wednesday, Dec. 19: Makeup Day
  • Thursday Dec. 20 begins Holiday Break; classes resume Friday, Jan. 4.
The following is THS' exemption policy:

Students in grade 9-12 may choose to be exempt from end of course final exams for full credit and half credit course if the following criteria are met:

* Student has not received ISS or OSS during the school year;
* The student has an eight-five (85) or above average in the course;
* The student has not missed more than three (3) days/periods (excused or unexcused) prior to days designated for final exams for full credit courses;
* The student has not missed more than one (1) day/period (excused or unexcused) prior to days designated for final exams for half credit courses;
* Student has not been assigned placement at the Structured Day Program during the school year;
* The course is NOT a prerequisite course for SATP;

If the student elects to take an exam in which exemption requirements have been met, the student will not be penalized by an exam grade that would lower the student's final average.

College visits are considered school related absences. Eleventh and twelfth graders are allowed two college visits per year. School related absences do not affect exemption status. In other words, students may still be exempt if school related absences cause the total number of absences to exceed the exemption limit.

College scholarships
 You may now review National College Scholarships by clicking HERE.

Click HERE for area scholarships.

Local College Scholarships will be posted closer to Christmas. But below is a state scholarship recently sent to our counselors:

Mississippi Concrete Industries Association Essay/Scholarship for 2012.
The contest is open to students who are either in their junior or senior year in high school (ages 16-18) and who live in Mississippi.  We encourage participation from throughout the state and remind all participants that submissions must be submitted or postmarked by Monday, November 12, 2012
.  The entry form and rules are also available online at
.  We encourage our students to submit their entries and essays online.

As you prepare the students please remind them that this is an "essay" contest and reports are not what the judges are looking for.  The definition of essay is a short literary composition expressing the author's viewpoint on a subject which can take many forms. Some ideas that might jump start their thinking about concrete are:  how concrete affects the environment; the impact of using concrete to build homes; concrete benefits to society, and concrete related jobs.

Should you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Mississippi Concrete Industries Association Administrative Office at 601-957-5274 or by email: info@mississippiconcrete.com
