Testing Continues...
Because the testing schedule is determined in part by how many instructional hours a student has accumulated, it's very important that tutors submit their monthly hours promptly and for all months, even if the number of hours was zero for a particular month.
If you have reason to think you and your student will soon stop your work together, please notify Cathy (c.weiss@cravenliteracy.org) or Judy (j.willoughby@cravenliteracy.org) so that we can schedule a final assessment ASAP. Additionally, if you have any questions about the testing process in general, please contact Cathy or Judy. We'll be happy to help!

Greetings!
CLC is so excited to announce our newest tutors have completed their tutor training and are waiting to be placed with students. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and places. Please give them a warm welcome if you see a new face in the hallway. We have a great need for tutors so we ask your help to spread the word about the next NEW TUTOR TRAINING WORKSHOP beginning July 12!
Some of the staff is heading to the North Carolina Literacy Association Conference in Greensboro on May 4- 6! I am looking forward to learning more about Volunteer Recruitment and Multi-level English as a Second Language instruction. It's always fascinating for me to meet with other literacy councils and learn about how they organize their programs.
Be sure to read below about how the tutors should leave the door open when they are finished tutoring. This was another great suggestion from one of our tutors. If you have any ideas that would improve your experience as a tutor, or help the office run more efficiently, we'd love to hear them.
And finally, mark your calendars for our next Tutor In-Service scheduled for June 22. We will have 3 sessions; 10:30am to 12:00pm, 1:30 -3:00pm, and 5:30-7:00pm. The topic?
"Techniques to Develop the Listening and Speaking Skills of Your Student." .
Tune in for more information.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication,

Unneeded Items?
If you have any unneeded materials that belong to CLC, please return them! This would include teacher's books and also any student books in very good condition. (If your student has used a book and completed all the work in it, please give the book to the student to keep.)

Carol's Tutor Tips
INTRODUCING Zero Prep for Beginners: Ready-to-Go Activities for the Language Classroom!
If you look in the white gutters on the wall in the tutor rooms, you will see a copy of this extremely valuable resource. Inside, you will find ways to provide language input, including routines for using readings, dictations, pictures, actions and songs to convey meaning. It is perfect for small groups and individual learners. The beauty of it is that there is no preparation to using these techniques. Please find a few minutes prior to your tutoring session to look over these wonderful ideas for enhancing your instruction.

Articles Needed for Student Newsletter
Reminder: The deadline for submitting articles for the student newsletter is May 31. Please encourage/help your student submit an article for the coming issue. If your student isn't comfortable writing yet, this is a great opportunity to practice the language experience activity. You may leave the article at the office, e-mail them to j.willoughby@cravenliteracy.org. or give them to anyone on the staff.

When You Are Done Tutoring, Please Leave the Door Open!
Please help your fellow tutors by turning off the light and leaving the tutor room door open so waiting tutors know for sure the room is not being used. Thank you for your cooperation!

Remember: Bring your key & keep the door locked!!!
