PMSE Elections are Underway

The PMSE elections, held every Fall to elect Councilors, Alternate Councilors and Members-at-large, are now underway. All PMSE members in good standing should have received an email from VoteNow on Oct 19 with a link to the electronic ballot and a unique voter registration code. Voting instructions were included in the email.

Councilor Election: The Councilors and Alternate Councilors are voting members of the PMSE Executive Committee. They represent the Division of PMSE in the meetings and business of the Council of the ACS. Alternate Councilors substitute for absent Councilors at the ACS Council Meetings with written authorization from the PMSE Secretary.

There are 3 candidates running for Councilor - Michael Jaffe, Julie Jessop and Frank Jones. Click here to view their bios. The candidate who receives the most votes will be elected councilor for the 2013-2015 term; the runner-up will be elected alternate councilor.

Member-at-large Election: Members-at-Large are voting members of the PMSE Executive Committee. They represent the PMSE membership in the meetings and business of the Division of PMSE. Members-at-Large also chair and/or serve on the various PMSE standing committees. There are 11 candidates running for Member-at-Large: Keyur Desai, William Dichtel, Robert B. Grubbs, Melissa Grunlan, Ryan Hayward, Arthi Jayaraman, Bradley Olsen, Anjali Patil, Angel Romo-Uribe, Yoan Simon, and Shu Yang. Click here to view their bios. The six candidates who receive the most votes will be elected members-at-large for the 2013-2014 term.

Ballots close Nov 16th - don't forget to vote!

Call for Student Chapter Activity Proposals

This is to announce the first annual call for proposals from POLY/PMSE student chapters, which are jointly funded by the PMSE and POLY divisions to support student chapter activities. You may propose up to $1,000 to help defray the costs for an event to be hosted by your chapter.

Types of events eligible for funding may be - hosting speakers for a special symposium, holding a poster session with students from your chapter and other chapters in the same region, community outreach events to teach elementary or high school students about polymers, job fairs and other events which add value to your members or which help your chapter grow.

Obtaining matching funds from your school or local industries is highly encouraged and will enhance the likelihood of your proposal being funded.

Proposals should be submitted by Dec. 1, 2012 using the Chapter Enrollment template to be eligible for funding. Selections will be announced at the end of January. For Additional Information: Contact Kevin Cavicchi  or Matt Miri, or click here.

If you are a student interested in starting a student chapter at your school, please contact Dr. Kevin Cavicchi.

Organize a PMSE Symposium

Anyone can organize a PMSE symposium at a national ACS meeting. To propose a topic, use the one-page Interactive Proposal Form as a guide, and submit the completed form to any of the Technical Program Co-Chairs listed at the bottom. You may wish to discuss your idea with one of the Program Co-Chairs first; please do not hesitate to call or e-mail. In addition to traditional PMSE program areas, the Program Co-Chairs are especially interested in symposia devoted to new or emerging areas of polymer technology and science. For more information see here.
