Douglas Steel
Receives National Recognition for its Outstanding Safety Performance

Douglas Steel is proud to announce that the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Michigan, The Association of Union Contractors (TAUC) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has awarded Douglas Steel their top safety awards in 2011 rewarding us for our 2011 DART rate being 0.00 for both our fabrication plant and our erection division.

This is also reinforced by our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) being 0.60 for both operations in 2012.  This is a direct result of our company's safety culture which instills an attitude of "Safety First" in all activities as well as our loss prevention and return to work programs.

Douglas Steel Helps DMC Sinai-Grace Expand

DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit has broken ground for the long awaited $77 million expansion and renovation of its Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This expansion will dramatically upgrade care and comfort for patients by replacing "curtained" patient exam rooms in the ED with 42 new "hard walled" patient exam rooms to ensure privacy for patients.

Douglas Steel is under contract with Turner/White Joint Venture to detail, fabricate and erect 900 tons of structural steel and miscellaneous iron for the 115,000 square foot project.

Future plans also call for renovation and expansion to the Radiology Department and the Lobby which will become a bright beacon to those arriving at the hospital. This comprehensive upgrade is slated for completion by late 2015 and is part of the nearly $850 million investment in the DMC by Vanguard Health Systems.
