Resilient Energy Infrastructure for Critical Facilities

We are pleased to announce that during the first 6 months of 2014, EPS AB Energy Canada Ltd. has been awarded contracts for several large CHP and Power Plants with a combined order value totalling more than $35M:
  • Erie Meat Products, a meat processing and cold storage facility in Listowel, Ontario, awarded the contract for an Ecomax 18, indoor CHP system with steam heat recovery. Project utilizes the Jenbacher J612 and is planned for start up in Fall of 2014.
  • MFC Processing Partnership in Alberta awarded a contract for a 16.5 MW power plant. This will be the North-American introduction of the Ecomax SX, a modular CHP plant concept developed by Gruppo AB. This project utilizes 5 x Jenbacher J620 and is planned for start up in Spring 2015.
  • Polycon, a Magna company in Guelph, Ontario, awarded a contract for 3 x Ecomax 27 HE, Containerized CHP units with steam heat recovery. Total power output is 8 MW with 3 x Jenbacher J616. Start up is planned for Spring 2015.

First North-American Tenergy Automated Dispatching System Started up at Great Northern Hydroponics
12 MW CHP Plant at Great Northern Hydroponics in Kingsville

In 2008 Great Northern Hydroponics started commercial operation of the first North American Jenbacher Greenhouse CHP plant. This 12 MW CHP project exports electricity into the Ontario power grid, delivers heat to the greenhouse and exhaust is cleaned to a point where it is injected into the greenhouse for plants to absorb the CO2 and increase tomato production. An operational challenge was for the plant to run when the market price for electricity is higher than the cost of operation. In order to maximize project revenues and ensure that the installation always runs when market prices are favourable for doing so, GNH decided to proceed with the installation of an automated dispatching system as was developed by Tenergy from the Netherlands. The Tenergy system will look at the market price for power, cost of natural gas, thermal and CO2 demands of the greenhouse in order to determine whether the installation should run, not run or operate in part load.

2.8 MW Elmira Biogas CHP Plant Starts Commercial Operation
1.4 MW GE Jenbacher, Model JGS420 CHP module, used for Elmira Biogas Plant
Commercial operation has started at the 2.8 MW biogas CHP plant owned by Bio-En in Elmira. The complete biogas CHP system was designed and built by EPS-AB. Our 'gas-to-wires' scope included the design, installation, start up and commissioning of the complete 2.8 MW CHP plant, including gas conditioning, CHP modules, heat recovery equipment, controls, switchgear, step up transformer, grid connection and complete balance of plant systems.
