Academic Scholarship Signing Day
 

Cade LaGreca is pictured with his parents Charles and Glenda LaGreca at the first ever Academic Scholarship Signing Day Friday morning in the EDW Student Union. 

 

There were 48 students who signed academic scholarships to 10 different colleges, which earned the Class of 2015 more than $2.5 million in scholarships.

 

The following is a list of students who signed an academic scholarship:

LMEA District VII Hall of Fame
 

 

James L. Cherry '53 is pictured with President Tim Robichaux at the EDW Spring Band Concert on April 29, being inducted into the Louisiana Music Education Association District VII Hall of Fame. 

After graduating from Thibodaux College in 1953, Cherry was the first student from TC to become a band director.  He attended Francis T. Nicholls Junior College in 1954 and was named Who's Who in Music outstanding freshman. He received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1959, then earned his Masters of Music Education in 1966 and completed additional post-graduate hours for his Plus 30 from Nicholls State and Louisiana Tech Universities in 1970. 

During Cherry's band directing years, he organized the first all men's choir at St. Anne's in Napoleonville, sponsored the Academic Excellence Award in Instrumental Music for 20 years in participating schools in Terrebonne Parish, he was founder and first full-time conductor of the Houma-Terrebonne Community Band. He was  the faculty sponsor of FMLA at Evergreen Junior High School.  He served as adjudicator on many occasions for District VII and other districts in Louisiana, and was honored conductor for the District VII Band Director's Association's All-Youth Honor Band, along with many other achievements. 

Cherry is the owner and technician of Mr. C's Band Instrument Repair since 1986 with 53 years experience.  He is married to the former Ezel Bergeron of Houma, and they have six children, 16 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  He and his wife reside in Gray, LA. 

 

 


Coindre Cross

4-H Achievement Day
 

Congratulations to the E. D. White Catholic 4-H Club, who placed 1st in the Senior Division at Saturday's Achievement Day competition and also received a 2nd place Activity Award. 


Senior Week
 
Students in Bro. Patrick McGinity's class are pictured Thursday for senior citizen dress up day.  Seniors were able to dress up in different themes each day during senior week.

Congratulations to Freshman Ethan Naquin who received a superior rating for his solo at the state level.



Symphonic Band

Congratulations to the Symphonic Band for receiving sweepstakes at the State Band Festival on Thursday at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

 

 


Seniors Get Passports
 

Seniors recieved their passports and lit candles at a special presentation after Mass on Friday.  The passports were first given to the students at 8th Grade Induction as a way to record their faith journey throughout their high school years.

Congratulations to the following softball players  who were selected to the Academic All-District Team:  Sydney Bordis, Kali Clement, and Sydney Falcon.


  

 

 

Boys Golf        

 

The E. D. White Catholic boys golf team shot a 323 to finish second at last week's regional tournament at the Atchafalaya at Idlewild in Patterson on April 27.


  

 

Gymnastics               

The E. D. White Catholic girls gymnastics team placed third overall at the state meet over the weekend.

 

The team also placed second in Division II  and second in Division III.


 

 

Baseball               

In Friday's Class 3A first-round game against Jennings in Thibodaux, the Cardinals defeated the Bulldogs 4-3. 


 

 

Track              

Congratulations to the boys Track Team for their Regional Runner-up Wednesday night at J.H. Williams Middle School in Abbeville.  The Cardinals qualified seven athletes in six events for the State Meet at LSU on Saturday, May 9.

Tennis            

Congratulations to the boys and girls tennis teams for a great season.  Both teams fought hard at State in Monroe, and Joshua Sundaram lost in the semi-finals against the State Champion.  The boys and girls both finished the regular season with a record of 10-4.
