Diocesan Retired Clergy, Wives and Widows Retreat
April 7 & 8 are the dates for the bi-annual gathering for the Retired Clergy, their Wives, and the Widows of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma. These gatherings are a time to reconnect with long time friends, recount events of "the good old days", relax, watch a movie, dine on the delicacies provided by the cook staff of St. Crispin's, and learn a thing or two along the way. This gathering is shaping up to do just that.
During our Fall gathering, we concentrated on the importance of exercise, as one matures, to maintain a healthy lifestyle on the Physical side of the ledger. The Spring gathering will concentrate on maintaining one's Mental health. As such, the title of this presentation is "Train the Brain". The presenter will be Dr. Mary Nole who is the Director of the Wellness Center at Saint Simeon's Retirement Center in Tulsa. Dr. Nole will be accompanied by Lindsay Morris who is the Marketing Coordinator for Saint Simeons.
Dr. Nole's presentation will center on research she has been conducting which addresses issues around memory skills, and how to enhance and maintain that ability. Included in the presentation will be some simple drills that our attendees can do to maintain mental alertness and functionality. This presentation will be one that will challenge and enhance or memory skills as we age.
Letters for the gathering have been sent announcing this program. It is very important for those desiring to attend to notify Georgia or Bob Gates NO LATER THAN March 7, 2014. Responses can be mailed to: 1044 Meadow Drive Bartlesville, Okla. 74006 with the completed form received with the letter. Another option is to call Georgia or Bob @ (918) 335-0929. Or e-mail them @ gatageorge@aol.com or frb426@aol.com. Cost for the gathering is listed in the mail-out. Room assignments are on a first come-first served basis. Singles are asked to arrange for their room mate, or note Single on their form. Please notify
Georgia or Bob if there are diet restrictions so that they may notify the St. Crispin's cook staff. Some limited scholarship help is available.
Join us for a much needed time to relax and learn.

Episcopal Relief and Development Report
Hello Everyone!
I wanted to let all of you know about the efforts of the Episcopal Relief and Development which is the outreach arm of the Episcopal Church of the United States. ERD is based in New York, but the efforts of the ERD are worldwide. In the last few months, I have forwarded articles that I have received from ERD New York, to all of you from time to time, so that you might read about how extensive the helping is around the world.
Recently you might have read about the disaster response in the Philippines after the devastating typhoon wracked the island during the fall. What is interesting about the Episcopal Relief and Development is that while other large disaster response groups seem to capture the limelight and garner much of the media attention and funding, ERD is there with as many people and as much experience and know how behind them residing in the shadows, quietly and efficiently making a difference in the work they do with all those affected, making vulnerable communities feel less vulnerable and building resilience in the health and agriculture of the region's people.
This was no more apparent than in the disaster response in the Philippines but that is now taking shape in the humanitarian crisis in the South Sudan. ERD is working closely with our Church partners in South Sudan during the growing crisis currently enveloping their country due to the conflict that erupted between militia loyal to opposing political factions. The Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan and its relief and development arm, SUDRA, are currently tending to immediate needs and long term recovery. To keep up with ERD updates on the situation in South Sudan by visiting www.episcopalrelief.org/southsudan.
The Episcopal Church will commemorate Episcopal Relief and Development Sunday on March 9, the first Sunday in Lent, with sermons, prayers, adult forums and children's activities that focus on sustainable solutions to global poverty. I will be focusing on this particular event for the next couple of weeks and give you all the links possible to order supplies and receive information. They are FREE!
The first item I would like to introduce you to is the book of Lenten Meditations, which is a daily devotional available in English and Spanish and it provides a particular focus on preparing for spiritual healing. I have already used mine, no sense waiting until Lent! You can order hardcopies at Episcopal Marketplace or receive PDF booklet versions at www.episcopalrelief.org/lent.
Be safe and be kind.

ChurchNext Opportunity for the Diocese
We are looking at subsidizing a portion of ChurchNext for congregations in our Diocese. If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, please contact Sabrina Evans at sevans@epiok.org or by phone at 405 232 4820. Calling does not obligate you, it only allows you to be part of a conference call with the other congregations interested and with The Rev. Chris Yaw, founder of ChurchNext TV. You would make up your mind if this is something that would work for your congregation after that call.
ChurchNext is an on-line Christian learning option where you can hear expert teachers in Scripture, liturgy, and important Christian topics. Students can interact in a safe, online environment that's convenient, engaging, and affordable. https://www.churchnext.tv/ will take you to their web site!

The course will expand on the popular Making Sense of the Cross, a six-session, small-group course published by Augsburg Fortress, Minneapolis.
Lots of congregations used The Big Class with Michael Curry in big group gatherings - and we learned a bit about how churches can get together around this course - here are some tips on How Your Congregation Can Use This Course for Lent.

Godly Play One Day Training Events Offered in Texas
Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. This approach is quite different from the traditional model in which the teacher tells the children what they need to know. It is not just about learning lessons or keeping children entertained. It is about understanding how each of the stories of God's people connects with the child's own experience and relationship with God. Over three Saturdays, participants experience all aspects of the Godly Play method and begin to become fluent in the core stories and lessons. This training follows an action/reflection model of learning with a mixture of trainer-led presentations and participant storytelling presentations. Students may enroll in a single Saturday, or attend all three. Houston St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Liturgical Action + The Environment March 8 Learn more and register
