Prayer by Sir Francis Drake
Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, Lord, when
with the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.
Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wilder seas
Where storms will show Your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push back the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our Captain,
Who is Jesus Christ. |

Moms In Prayer Group
 | | St. Mary's School team of Prayer Warriors (l - r) Gayle Jones, Kimberly Webb, Karla Launhardt, Donna Goins, and Julie McDonough |

A part of the MIP International, the group is an interdenominational, Christ-centered prayer ministry made up of moms, grandmom, aunts and any woman desiring to pray for children in the school. The group meets once a week and follows an order of praise, confession, thanksgiving and prayers of intercession. The group also lifts one teacher up each week, as well as four to five students. By the end of the academic year, every faculty and staff member, and each student has been prayed for by name. The Church of the Redeemer Welcomes Bishop Ed and Wife Debbie
On Sunday, October 21, 2012, The Church of the Redeemer in Oklahoma City celebrated the visitation of Bishop Ed and his lovely wife Debbie. Bishop Ed presided over the service which included one (1) baptism and eleven individuals for confirmation. This was Bishop Ed's first visit to Redeemer since he installed Father Morgan Ibe as Rector two years ago. In his homily, Bishop Ed noted the milestones that have been achieved at Redeemer since his last visit.
The morning worship service began with the lively Choral Anthem-"Kumbaye" - complete with drums. Brandon Jones was presented for Holy Baptism. The confirmands presented were Darien Blanchard, Robbin Broom, Johnathon Hayes, Zelmarie Hayes, Chinomso Ibe, Natasha Jones,Trevion Jones, Quinn Rogers, Chandin White, Noelle White, and Michelle Williams. We welcome our new communicants who have renewed their commitments to Christ. Following the Rites of Baptism and Confirmation, Bishop Ed led the celebration of Holy Communion.
The joy of the morning worship service was extended further as the congregation gathered in the Fellowship Hall for a bountiful reception in honor of Bishop Ed, Debbie, the newly initiated, their families and supporters as well as other visitors and friends. Redeemer is blessed and thankful to God and to the Diocese of Oklahoma for its continued support of our parish in the Oklahoma City community. |

There's A Big Fair Coming to St. Paul's on November 11th
A SPECIAL INVITATION TO ALL OUR DIOCESAN CHURCHES
One of the actions taken at Convention last week was to commit our Diocese to the National Church's Fifth Mark of Mission: "To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth" - and you can begin by coming to the
WHOLE CREATION COMMUNITY FAIR
THIS SUNDAY AT ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL!
The Cathedral's WCC group has organized 15-20 fascinating exhibitors eager to tell you all about how you can mindfully integrate the care of Creation into your parish's daily life and walk with a lighter footprint on this Planet Earth. The Whole Creation Community ministry is built in the classic three-legged stool format, which includes prayer, education, and action. The Fair will be a major piece of our educational effort-and you'll find much there that will move you to prayer and action as well.
One of our exhibitors, The Regional Food Bank, has asked us to bring bagged leaves which they will use to make compost for their organic gardens. Let's bring them a whole truckful for their so-good cause! They'll even teach you how to do it too-one of many fascinating exhibits in store for you. The Fair will be held in Dean Willey Hall from 10:00 to 1:00 on November 11th. Don't miss it!
A RESOLUTION PASSED
Another way we can align ourselves with the National Church's Fifth Mark of Mission is to work within our parishes and missions to become better stewards of creation. A resolution was passed last week at convention that encourages congregations to develop a plan that fosters change. By sharing action plans, local communities learn from one another and build a common resource bank to continue growing together in environmental stewardship.
The Diocese of Oklahoma already has a network to help bring support and resources for planning to the local level, and to assist in sharing information throughout Oklahoma: the Whole Creation Community (WCC). Parishes and missions are encouraged to call on the WCC to help them conduct a self-assessment and draft an effective action plan.

Halloween at the Rolling Green Community
Rolling Green (RG) is an apartment complex (HUD housing) for low income families in Edmond. There are approximately 170 apartments of residents ranging from families with young children, to students who attend UCO and elderly individuals. This is the fourth year that Mary Ann Coffman from St. Mary's church has organized the collection of costumes for the children of RG in collaboration the St. Augustine of Canterbury and the teachers of Northern Hill elementary School. Costumes were distributed to the children and some adults on October 22nd at the Rolling Green community room. This was done all in preparation for the joyful occasion of our Halloween party at RG on October 26th where the RG staff, church volunteers and over 40 children with their parents attended. There was food, crafts games and a costume contests!
We are now in the process of preparing for thanksgiving and Christmas by making decorations through our Tuesday afternoon art program and planning the community Christmas party. More to come!

Lock-In and Worship Pictures

What a great time we had at the Mission: Possible Lock-In at St. Paul's on Friday night of convention. There were some 50 youth in attendance and so many hands working behind the scene - the food was incredible, the space fantastic, the workshops were great, the fellowship and reconnecting with old friends - priceless. A special thanks to all the adults and college kids who were troopers and brought their air mattresses and "camped out" in the basement.
Worship on Saturday started out with a video clip from an old "Mission: Impossible" scene where Jim finds the recorder to learn of his new mission. He is charged by Bishop Ed to find the youth of the diocese and bring them into convention to lead worship. The music starts and from all corners of the meeting space, youth wearing black fedoras and sunglasses crept in, passing out hats, sunglasses, and tee shirts to unsuspecting adults. The youth covered the entire stage area, several rows deep.
Worship was Celtic and everything was put onto Powerpoint. Youth took turn with the readings and leading music.
At the end, the Bishop honored the youth for their work and so did the entire convention floor.
The Episcopal Youth Leadership Academy (EYLA) youth were then introduced to the convention. This group was meeting in conjunction with the lock-in and convention. |

MIQRA
MIQRA MEETING: DECEMBER 15TH 12 NOON DIOCESAN OFFICES. If you want to be in on the planning for this event, come join us.
You have been seeing the word and some information but here's more! A Miqra (meek rah) is a public reading of Scripture.
Our Miqra is to be offered January 19 - 21, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Edmond. We actually begin on Friday (the 18th) morning, with the help of volunteers - college students, youth ministers, and other volunteers - and the reading begins.
A small group of youth who have been working on the planning will get together on Friday after school and do the prep work to ready for everyone. We will share a meal together and worship together. The reading continues.
The event officially begins on Saturday (the 19st) at noon. Everyone who comes will have an opportunity to sign up to read scripture, but it is not mandatory that you read. Reading slots are 1 hour in length and a maximum of three can sign up for a particular hour.
Periodically throughout the weekend, we will pause in our various program activities to listen to the reading. Participants are also given free time where they can choose to sit in the nave and listen to the reading. Reading continues around the clock from the time we start until finished. These readings are usually covered by parents and adult volunteers.
Now, while the reading is going on in the nave, we are offering all types of workshops for the participants. They will have "tribe time" in which they will engage in discussions or activities. We will have games, movies, crafts, and of course, food.
We will end on Monday morning at 9:30 with a closing worship service. We will read the final chapter of Revelation together as a group at our closing worship.
So what are we asking of you? Hopefully, you will want to attend and participate. Maybe you play a musical instrument and would like to be a part of that offering. Talk it up with the youth in your congregation. Get them excited about this 1st Miqra. Get people registered!
Adults - we need lots of help for this. You don't have to be involved in Youth Ministry to participate. Volunteer to be a tribe leader, reader, provide snacks, or even lead a workshop!
This promises to be one of the best events we have ever offered! |

Two New FREE Resources from The Episcopal Church
Two new Lifelong Christian Formation resources focusing on older adults and faith formation in the Black context are now available for congregational use, in adult forums, study groups, educational seminars, and discussion gatherings."Aging is Changing" and "Stories of Transformation: Worship, Witness & Work in the Black Community" are available at no cost on the Episcopal Church website.
Aging is Changing
"Aging is Changing" is a five -part program designed to be incorporated into the life of congregations. Prepared by the Episcopal Church Office for Lifelong Christian Formation and the Executive Council Taskforce on Older Adult Ministries, "Aging is Changing" was developed to help clergy and lay leaders identify issues of older adults, their families, and caregivers, and to identify existing local, state and national resources that might be helpful. It also includes best practices from 60 congregations around the Episcopal Church.
"This resource is aimed at changing the perception that older adults become less useful as they age," explained Ruth-Ann Collins, Episcopal Church Officer for Lifelong Formation. "It highlights the potential of this generation and signals us to remember that as Christians, we are called by God. And as a church we have adopted The Five Marks of Mission as a way to answer that call."
Aging is Changing is available at: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/page/older-adult-ministries
Stories of Transformation: Worship, Witness & Work in the Black Community
This important offering is a series of stories shared from the personal experience of the writers - a seminarian, theologians, parish priests, activists - and is a direct response to the conversation among the young people about the place and role of storytelling in the family
Prepared by the Episcopal Church Office for Lifelong Christian Formation and the Office of Black Ministries, Stories of Transformation is recommended for congregational use by clergy and lay leaders who want to approach faith formation work in the context of the black community, providing readers the opportunity to go deeper into the stories of the black community.
"These stories illustrate the rich heritage of a community with the tension between experiences of deep sadness and the abundance of joy inform how the black community celebrate their relationship with God," noted the Rev. Canon Angela S. Ifill, Episcopal Church Missioner for Black Ministries "This is not just for those ministering in black community. It is a gift to all Christians giving us a significant opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of the black community."

Pagent Ideas
A Revels form (www.revels.org) could be put together easily with
resources like Wild Goose Worship and is a very inclusive,
community-oriented and intergenerational way to celebrate Christmas Eve.
Linnea Good has a collection of gathered pageants and very accessible music. www.linneagood.com
Episcopal Relief & Development released a series of Children's Chapel/Family services last year. They are available for free download at www.er-d.org/advent. Click the icon for "children's chapel" (it has a picture of a schoolhouse on it). These services were designed for use on a smartboard or laptop and projector. You will need to put in your name and email address. Personally, I would use either the "Light" or "New Life" module for Christmas Eve. |
